Road tax

I believe the DVLA web site will tell you how much if you enter your reg number

Our EV goes from £0 to £195 on April 1st annoyingly when our tax is due, so I will be renewing for £0 for another 12 months in February 👍

Our MH renews next month so not a problem for us till next year on that one

As far as I can see a motorhome under 3.5 tons reduces by £10. I suppose it’s better than going up.Our cars remain the same, yours might not depends on the CO2 output. The losers will be the PHG vans over 3.5 tons. I hope I have read it right it’s on the GOV website.

I can’t find the link to check but it looks very complicated being based on weight and or emissions also date registered 🤔

I pay mine by monthly DD and it is now £351 pa. ☹️. It’s only little but is my daily vehicle but obviously a lot more than the £20 I paid when I had my car!

Here’s a link to the measures that were announced in the Autumn Budget 2024 that stated the £165 per annum, that has been in place for 10 years +, would rise by RPI = £6.00. I think it’s reasonable.

On the paper it doesnt state PHGV special use, it does state owners and operators of HGV and LEVY which is for those over 12000kg.
Will be interesting when the first funster renews the road tax after April

My Car £710 year ULEZ £12.50
Wife’s car £255 VED ULEZ zero

My mate has just bought a 1970 Rolls Royce silver shadow. 55 years old 6.75 litre petrol

And these people govern us! 😱

Yep thats the way around ulez. Buy a 30 year old v12 gas guzzling jaguar or Mercedes etc and save the planet. It is anomalies like this that prove it is just a tax for making money

It is about time somebody took Tfl to court to prove that charging £300 p.d. is 'unreasonable' and 'disproportionate', using the other UK cities' charges as evidence.

But who is to do it? The motorists associations, AA and RAC have been sold off as commercial organisations and the likes of Road Haulage Association etc. have less of a case when largely representing 40/44t operators and who can pass on the charges to customers. It is the social user and those whose V5Cs, but not their vehicle, are changed to show just over 3.5t.

It would help London residents if there were a discount, especially if they were resident before the LEZ charge existed and were affectively 'fenced in' by it.

VED is supposed to be based around climate change impact (CO2). But yeah, the motorhome PHG rates are way too low.

ULEZ is for local air pollution (particulates and NOx).

Global warming and local air pollution are not the same things. Hence the difference in rates.

Either way it’s all a massive con to earn money because without it tfl would be bankrupt

I don't think so, it's the same as a goods vehicle of the same weight, the goods vehicle is probably doing 40,000 plus miles a year compared to a Motorhome doing 5,000 to 10,000 miles a year, so a PHGV Motorhome should have the VED reduced.

The Road Tax on my Buses 10yrs ago, was £500 a year.

The PHGV VED does seem VERY low, I wonder if the M P families that run Horseboxes have anything to do with it? 🤔

PS. Lenny HB I'm not sure that Goods vehicles of the same weight ARE Taxed at the same rate, I THINK, that little word PRIVATE makes a big difference? 🤔
