RIP Leisure Battery?

If it drops that much with only lights on, somewhere you may have a weak high resistance connection from the lights to the batt. Give it a full charge overnight and see what you got with lights on.

What battery did you get?

If you have led lights it should only drop .1 to .3v of a volt. Dropping to 12.1 with a low load it sounds like it has been stored for quite a few months without being charged. I think you need to ask for a replacement.
Hi

I went for the Hankook 110AH. I’m going to give it a charge tomorrow to see whether it holds. Lights aren’t led unfortunately as it’s a 13 year old van.

Thanks for all the advice

change out the old halogen bulbs for LED, they are cheap and easy to change

At 23 KG. I cant see them lasting as long as the other options.!

Do any battery manufacturers quote plate thickness?

Perhaps we should start asking sellers.

Geoff
No they don't and even this would not necessary tell you how much lead there is in the plate. The best indication is weight as the battery size is more or less fixed. Although, ! have seen one video of a foreign leisure battery that when opened up had a steel block in the bottom to give it extra weight with half of the battery, lead plates. Nothing illegal in that as there is no defined national or international standard to define how a leisure battery should be built and with no controls like this in place the market is flooded with absolute crap. Great labelling with a great sales pitch misleading the majority of purchasers who end up getting ripped off. That's the main reason why one should keep to a manufacturer who produces his own leisure batteries and go for weight in a lead acid battery.

Yes, but not all manufacturers. Rolls for example, they publish all plate thicknesses and weight on most of their models. And the alloy is a trade secret.

Search Rolls surrette s480 pdf data and see for yourself. I’m on the phone and browsing is limited.

I keep thinking about swapping our leisure battery before it packs in as its 6 years old now its a numax too. By coincidence I had a go outdoors catalogue yesterday they have a numax 105 ah for£84

Rolls Surrette S480 (S-480) Solar Battery

Discontinued: Go To Replacement Battery
6 Volt, Three (3) Cell Rolls Surrette S-480 (S480) Stationary Batteries for Solar Panel (Photovoltaic), Inverter, Renewable Energy and Alternative (Alternate) Energy Applications. Deep Cycle Battery for Standby (Stand By) Applications.

I picked the s480 as I got them. It’s probably been superseded with newer ones. But is the same with the other models S 550, 600 and the ind line double jars. It’s designed for motive and stationary power these are real deep cycle traction batteries, not relabled starters for sure. If something smaller are needed there are plenty to chose: s290 etc similar to Trojan T 105 125, 145.
G wizz used to run on T125’s. These are all designed for motive power.
