Ring door bell

Hi Jaws...we too have cctv around the property for the motorhome, we also have the Ring door bell too. Reason being is that the Ring bell allows you to get a real good close up where as the cctv regardless of being on HD and very High quality recording...does not always show enough detail on close up! Like yours I am sure the cctv will let you know when the camera detects a moving object and so calls you or lets you know by text. The ring allows a really good close up image of who ever it may be....close to the door bell at that time.

Regards Kev
Same here. Also the neighbours can ring the door bell if they need to speak to us or leave a message

You do not need a subscription if you jsut want to use it as a door bell and to see who is at the door. But you do need a subscription if you want to save and look at the video. AFAIK you also need it in order to get the thefot cover as well.
I know you don’t need a subscription for basic use, my answer was in relation to the theft cover.

However, there is no mention of theft cover in the protection plan, only video recording etc.

And as already posted in the other link I posted regarding theft, there is no mention of requiring a subscription the Purchase policies either

We have one and it doesn’t t work on our Honor mobiles, but is fine on alexa and both my daughters phones, and one of them is 200 miles away. I got it mainly to alert us when someone is at the door and we are in the garden or in my workshop, i have an alexa in there, and for thats its excellent.

Yep, you are correct and I was wrong. You get theft protection included even if you do not buy a plan. (y)

This page sets out what you do get with and without the various Ring plans

I paid £22:99 for mine off of eBay. Great bit of kit records to my phone or IPad. Had to buy special batteries and charger £10 ebay again. Great value. Acts as cctv to watch the van.

Love our ring doorbell we pay the small subscription well worth it for us . We have ours connected up to our Alexa . It's tells you when someone is approaching and when they ring the bell . We take our Alexa show with us in van whilst away works well on my mobile data most of the time . Just say Alexa show front door . You can have a conversation whilst away with anyone who rings the bell . We downloaded rapid ring app as well as it helps with the slight delay you may get . . We also have a small sign by bell stating there maybe a slight delay time we are in just wait patiently for 30 seconds for a reply if wanting to leave parcels etc. Works for us . During the good weather with windows and patio doors open Alexa set to load so we can hear her all around the property so can anyone else 😂
when away we get the same alert in van and on mobile phone . No brainer really for peace of mind for us . I did join the Alexa group on Facebook for help and advice on these matters and also the ring group . Any probs I just ask on there I've learnt such a lot and a lot of quick fixes so well worth joining. .
Before we had Alexa connected to the ring bell it wasn't really loud enough for me or Amanda being both deaf even with our hearing aids in ,Bill wired it to an electric chime . We also hard wired our ring saved us having to keep charging battery . Since connecting to Alexa show 8; that solved any probs for me not hearing it 😉👍
Kind regards Kate
Thanks Kate (y) . Never realised that there was a rapid ring app. Downloaded and tried it now. Much quicker to respond to a notification or just see what is happening outside now.

What sort of range does it offer to see the van?
Thanks

It can see and record anything it is pointing at. But it has a range of about 20m or so when it comes to sensing movement. The Ring cameras and doorbell cameras do not record all the time. They only record when they sense movement. They will then warn you and you can watch it. But you will need a subscription for them to save the recordings so you can look at and download them later.

So what if you have a MiFi in the van? Presumably it keeps recording as long as there is power and the MiFi will be uploading audio and video. You might get to listen in to the sc***s until they spot it.

Yes but it will only send live video and sound to your phone if you have a camera in the motorhome too. But, unless you have a subscription you will only be able to view and listen live. It will only record to the cloud so that you can look at it later if you have a subscription.

A Ring tip!

if you have an iPhone, download the “Rapid Ring” app from the App Store.

It is free and is MUCH faster to connect to the Ring doorbell, I keep both apps on my iPhone as I need the original toprovide updates but days to day use Rapid Ring is so much faster.

Sorry, I wasn't clear - that's what I meant, leave a Ring camera in the van. If the MiFi powers up with the van then you have scene of crime video and audio until the thieving ****s spot it.

Yep, but my point is that you will need to have subscription to have it saved. And I am not sure the police would have enough resources to do much.

Sadly, your second point is the issue...
