Rewiring to use the inverter

It’s fine, I would much rather know now than when I install everything! :)

Just off to return the many items I now don’t need. 🤦‍♂️

Found some local dual pole MCB’s so will grab them today.

If anyone can recommend an auto relay and box to put it in, that would be awesome.

Really appreciate everyone’s help. 👍

16 amp more than man enough if your inverter is going in series on your 13 amp sockets

Thanks! Will sort the changeover after I have reworded in readiness. 👍
It will all be worth it in the end 😏 Lyn and I have had some time away from work for a couple of weeks.

Where we are now, in a field, in a power hungry RV day eight with no hook up.

Minimum once a day Lyn using her Dyson hairdryer, and at least every second day using vacuum cleaner (we have a long haired German Shepherd dog) A couple of nights we have, due to too much Sun watched a film on TV, we are running in addition to the Fridge Freezer on gas, a 40L Dometic Compressor cool box on 12 volt for beer and Wine. Sunday afternoon, we had the outside TV (40” mains) on most of the afternoon, as some friends wanted to watch the football!

Currently, checking the App we are about 90% capacity and charging well from 450w of solar

Off to the beach shortly, and fully expect the Lithium’s will be back to 100% by the time we come back for afternoon G&T’s

Enjoy!

Been a long time coming with the year we have had. 👍

It has a spare way, fits fine and the space is there so all good. 👍

Old consumer unit out and it’s evident Hymer use the same harness for all models. I think I have enough cable on the heater supply. :)

What are the chances I am going to be lucky and find the fridge and charger have their own circuits?

Fridge normally plugs into one of the two output sockets on the consumer unit, the EBL will be plugged into one of the connection blocks somewhere fairly near the EBL. I spent ages hunting under the double floor for it in mine and finally found it behind one of the kitchen draws. I had to put a couple of additional connect blocks in to split it off.

My original wiring.

Alas it was not to be. The fridge was on it’s own circuit plugged in as you describe in a block next to the consumer unit. This was easy and I am just going to wire it straight into the MCB.

The charger alas shared a radial with two sockets and I had no option but to run a new cable from the EBL.

All sorted now mind, just have to finish the consumer unit and wait for the bits for the auto changeover.

Thanks for the help.

I am interested. How are you going to route a separate cable from the consumer unit to the charger on your Exsis.
Take each back off the seats, there is space to run a cable between them and then to the battery compartment as below.

You then have to run the cable under the door threshold then under the draws and fridge and after removing the wardrobe floor, it will appear there. You also need to remove a draw to get room unless your arms are really really thin.

That’s the inverter lead ready with the earth for grounding.

The inverter is currently back with Victron but that’s another story…..

All the connections are ready, just need to get a new RCD as the I was going to reuse the old one. That was a mistake as it was brittle and cracked, it will probably be fine and is taped up but for £20 I may as well get a new one.

Now for ordering the changeover and box to stick it in.

Up to this point and beyond I am OK.

But the existing trunking by the door is full (mainly by two heavy duty 12v cables to the interter). Your photo looks as though you have not used that

Ah, you are correct, mine is next to the batteries and thus I only need a small 240 cable to the consumer unit.

I still think under shower tray and heater compartment would be possible. It’s just that I needed to route the inverter cable that way so went for the door threshold. It is a tight fit.

I have a four week block of working weekends and nights so have the chance to dismantle everything. 😂

Bloody dog hair gets everywhere! I even found a clump behind the consumer unit, how on earth does it get there? 🤷‍♂️

Once the wiring is done it will be washed and cleaned TL an inch of its life. :-)

That’s the consumer unit done and tested.

Just waiting for the inverter back now and the relay to arrive tomorrow.

Box all ready for the relay, I hope it’s big enough!

Kept going into low voltage fault mode. It’s a Victron as well so a bit miffed! Victron currently have it.
Might be those pesky aluminium cables. ;-)

I have some 35mm copper on the way while it’s out. :-)
