Revolut Bank Scam

My son lost over £800 from his revolut card he had a message from them saying they had frozen his card ,he was abroad at the time and the only way to contact them is via online chat
His email account and password had been changed ...no secondary check by revolut 3 money transfers in 10 minutes and an attempt to take money put via atm ?
Revolut say its his fault as he email must have been compromised they didn't even attempt a charge back
If you Google you will find quite a few people have had same problem
Avoid
And other banks don’t have this problem...?

Many thanks for that but this site is the only media I look at
You could write to them ...

No I don't think so? Got the same but not interested. They had a promo for a case (6) bottles of craft beer for free. I signed up then cancelled the subscription after delivery.

They are rewards rather than scam emails but if you delve into them a bit deeper via the app which I did just out of curiosity as one was for trainline and I was thinking of student son in Newcastle it is a palaver. You have to sign up, first discount was 10% and thereafter 1%. A lot of others were subscriptions but the Holland and Barrett one was OK.

So yes you do get genuine emails from Revolut but they always tell you to go into your app.
We both had to update security information as we’d had ours from before you had to do photo ID so kept ignoring the emails thinking they were scams. Hadn’t used my Revolut for a while and then tried to top it up and it was rejected so started to investigate and sure enough if I’d bothered to look at the app I should have scanned in my passport or drivers licence. It was really hard to get it to accept a digital photo of the new passport, they are so shiny and faint and my drivers licence was rejected completely.

So this problem was caused by us being under the misconception that they don’t email you. They never ask for information from you by email but they may send you information and tell you to access your app.

I think Revolut is great. Quick, simple to use and free - with an excellent exchange rate.

I use it purely for spending money abroad and only top it up as I need it; literally seconds in advance. So there is practically never any money in to steal (apart from a few minutes at most, and even then only enough to cover purchases I’m about to make).

I use it to put trip money in and use for everything, fuel and spends etc. Some places don't take it though, not many. Generally small places that use a mobile to take card payments.

Any communication from Revolut that is not via the app is a scam...

They have told me that the only way they contact you is via your account app.
Except for emails about their Reward program ;)
Use this to stop reward emails

Same here, it was for 8 bottles so I only paid £5.95 delivery what was annoying is that afterwards I found out that going direct to the seller I could've got 10 free bottles! They're for FIL's birthday next month as an extra pressie so I'm sure he'll be happy with them.

Not the offer emails.

Are they regulated by the Financial conduct Authority?
Lots of reports of locked accounts.
Have to be FCA regulated to do business in this country, but they have gone wrong it will take the FCA at least 18 months to act 🙀🙀🙀

Why would you even want to bank with a bank called Revolut, they sound like a bent Russian money laundering outfit, 🥴🥴🥴
Saved me about £6k when I bought my van plus I only use their card now for all purchases.
Can transfer money from my bank onto the card and just control it all from my phone.
Can freeze the card from my phone block ATM and swipe use.
Best card I’ve had plus it doesn’t cost anything😁

Use it for all online purchases - just leave enough in the account - can't be scammed out anymore than that - transfers to foreign accounts free .............. (y) (y) (y)

Gromett , not only for Europe, soon as I see a good rate for the Thai baht, I exchange a decent amount and transfer to my Thai bank, No charge from revolut , £5.00 for transfer from Thai bank regardless how much the transfer is.
Wife bought a load of stuff from a Thai website today, used Revolut to pay in Baht, pressies for daughter in Bangkok.

I used mine last week to pay for an eBay item in Euro.

It's just so convenient.

But it's worth remembering that FCA regulation doesn't mean that they are protected under the Financial Compensation Scheme that Banks and BS's are so worth not leaving too many 10's of 1000's in your account.

I suggest if folk choose not to use Revolut themselves then that is fine.

If they try to stop others from using it because they have read negative "stuff" on the internet then I think that's not fine.

I was introduced to Revolut a few years ago by someone who had been using it very successfully as he travelled around the world.

I have used it since almost exclusively without any trouble at all.

It changed my access to my money in Blighty so much that I no longer need to have a lumpy mattress.

JJ

I use Revolut for all online and swipe payments and most that need a pin - keeping the card topped up to no more than £300.

Card topped up instantly from another account - the most I could be scammed out of is just what's on the card

Instant alert on my phone after any transaction - feels much safer than using an account with a larger balance

I use Revolut basically as a holding account, not as my main account, never huge amounts.

The benefits have been described by others, the main one for me is the ability to transfer money to foreign bank accounts fee free and virtually instantaneously in many cases.

Sick to death of Revolut, I have been unable to login for months but the only way of complaining is to first login
I had that problem a while back, hubby has Revolut too and he sorted it thru Revolut app for me!

I think Revolut is good, I like the way I can put money on the card instantly and I know exactly what/how much and where the money has been spent.
You can now have wages paid in and use it as a standard bank.

is this what you mean?

sadly many scams are over the phone.. so while it may reduce the scammers it can still happen. unfortunately one of our relatives fell foul a while back.

Your avoidance of online banking is just at your location.
You’ll be online “inside” your chosen bank.

They stopped having separate piles of money for offline users I’m afraid.
