Reversing Idea and help for reversing a transverse trailer

Not wishing to upset anyone but you’ve spent all that money on a bike and trailer so stop being a tight arse and pay the extra £240! :giggle: It’ll be the right stuff do do the job so get it bought!(y)

They still wouldn't store underneath the trailer though so not really "the right stuff"

But they are the right ramps for the bike and trailer! Storing them can be sorted by putting them on the front of the trailer like the op has already said.

He might not want to do it that way though, possibly he is asking questions to find a different solution.

It just sounded to me that he was trying to save money by finding an alternative solution. Which is fine by me but there’s already an answer there, made by the trailer manufacture, ready to be implemented.

That may be your opinion but I prefer value for money unlike some people that happily waste money. Its not just the money its the fact that you need to store the winch inside the MH as it will not fit in the original trailer location. The appearance of the trailer looks more of a bodged affair and they are not cheap items so I think your comment of "being a tight arse is well out of line

I will go out and measure the ground clearance tomorrow (it's too cold at the moment). I will make the following observation though, I hook the the winch strap onto the loop underneath the engine/gearbox so that I am not pulling on anything on the front suspension. With it in this position the hook snags on the lip at the end of the bed as it passes over it so the clearance is minimal. Another thing that I am not too happy about is that the split ramp which is hinged lengthways tries to fold when the rear wheel comes onto it.
One thing you could consider and which is something I have done when the ground drops away from the end of the trailer where the scooter is coming on/off is to put something under the end of the ramp to raise it higher, such as a couple of the plastic yellow motorhome ramps. This in itself will raise the back wheel higher. Assuming that the upright locking mechanism is similar to the MP3 another thing you might like to consider is to stand up and take the weight off the suspension so that it extends before you push the button to lock it. I don't know if all this makes sense but if you want to talk to me send me a PM and I will send you my phone number.
PS I have also made up a simple means by which I store the winch on the A frame on the front of trailer.

BTW Vennwood I don't know if you know this but if you put @immediately in front of a posters forum name it highlights it and notifies them in the alerts box at the top of the toolbar (signified by a bell next to the envelope).

Think I will stick to our cycles after reading all the above...Small and compact is my idea of a simple life..BUSBY😄😉

Many thanks - just the sort of information I need. Interesting to note that your MP3 clearance is minimal. Your experiences doesn't convince me that simply adding 15 inches to the length of the ramps in my case would work if the Metropolis is significantly lower ground clearance. Will PM you later tomorrow.

We had a N&B Flair a few years ago and used a MP3 with it. This was a better arrangement as we could fit the MP3 inside the Flair garage. I fitted a winch to opposite side of the garage then winched the bike up backwards using webbing straps around the pillion seat handles as the anchor points. This worked well for us for over 4 years and possibly easier to loop than around the engine/gearbox. Just a thought.

A MP3 won't fit. The double wheels are too wide for the load bed.
I beg to differ our MP3 fitted with ease and even had enough room down the side to slide in the ramps. The 2005 Flair 8000i garage doors were more than wide enough and the garage loading was 350kg. We used this for over 5 years. Prior to that we had a Kymco Quad bike inside and that was even wider.

A TRANSVERSE trailer, not ANOTHER set of letters I've got to get my head around, I'm only just figured out BINARY??? 😭

Hi there, I wonder what the loads on the two bar and the fixings be on a ‘rigid’ trailer. You might find damage to the outings, sheering of bolts etc.
I had a tow bar bolt High tensile type, sheer as a result of a ‘On the ball’ bike rack. We tend to loads we put on things.

Hi.
On some Tri axle trailers, the back axle would " Self steer " ( NO SLALOMS AT SPEED ;) Loaded ) When you had to reverse, you would straighten up the three axles while going forward,,a BOLT would be then operated by an airline .this would plunge down and locate into a hole in a flange attached to the back axle, this made reversing easier as the wheels did not " Screw around " and lock at an angle while reversing. This sounds so simple ? ...... BUT.... I am sure there are some " Metal butchers/welders " on the forum that would make this a simple task.GO ON....Get Brainstorming !!

In all these sort of threads I have often wondered why something like this wasn't tried out we used to have milk lorry's come in our small yard and steering the back wheels, so the technology is there ,just don't know how it applies here.

When loading/unloading my Honda scooter, I position an upturned milenco levelling ramp (smooth side up) under the foot of the ally ramp. This greatly reduces the gradient and overcomes clearance issues at the top of the ramp. It makes the process much less exciting!
