Aye, red or brown .. missed that out.Brown isn't just the colour of SH1T ... but I'd you do touch a brown wire you could be in it ...
That is correct. Is there someone out there wot knows about this stuff who can confirm this: reverse polarity on AC isn't really an issue for the kit it's operating because its Alternating Current which actually pulses backwards and forwards metaphorically speaking, thus reversing the polarity 50 times a second. Where it does matter is knowing that the red cable will bite, but the blue or black one probably won't. ( I say probably because of the double switched light at the top of the stairs - sneaky bastard is that one). Also: polarity matters in the UK because typically we use single pole isolators with fused appliances, and not so much in France because they use double pole isolators.
Didn't know they had updated the regs and got sensible.UK MHs also mostly have double-pole MCBs, and according to the latest regs that's what they should have. Single-pole MCBs are only found in older MHs and some self-builds.
Maybe in houses but not Motorhomes & Caravans. A 2002 Hobby caravan I bought in Germany didn't have nor did the 2008 Hymer I bought in Belgium but I did fit them myself.I seem to recall they had RCD protection before it became common over here
The problem, such as it is, arises because the UK-style domestic systems require the polarity to be correct as you say, but then you cross the Channel to where the polarity is not important, and plug your UK MH into a European system. That's why MHs are now wired with an RCD and double-pole MCBs. But there are older MHs and self-builds that aren't.Also: polarity matters in the UK because typically we use single pole isolators with fused appliances, and not so much in France because they use double pole isolators.
The reverse polarity adapter comes in useful occasionally. If I burn the toast, I just plug in the adapter, put the toast back in the toaster until it's untoasted, then put it all back again and try again.Having correct polarity is vitally important otherwise your fridge would heat, your oven would cool, you vacuum cleaner would blow and your leisure batteries would discharge.
