Return Ticket

Thanks for all the comments and suggestions, yes travel insurance requires return booking and I guess breakdown will be similar. So decided to get standard shuttle out and flexi ticket back. Once again thanks to all of you who took the time to respond and offer your thoughts / suggestions.

Doesnt work for us entering France next Sunday via Caen off to Morocco and no idea which crossing we will use to come back in April. We might even leave the Mh fly back for a fews weeks and go back for more. We also know people who keep their Mh semi permanently in Spain and travel back and forth by various methods, if theyre allowing longer multiple trips then are they de facto accepting that it will be flexible?

I really dont see how they would enforce it, how would they prove you didnt intend coming back to your houses and family etc and that somehow increased their liability?
By asking for proof, simples.👍

Why pay the extra?
to be flexible - sorry that was too flippant. We really change our dates as the diary seems to be full on but with being way so much we sometimes want the flexibility to change whilst not having the issue having to book the original return plan. that why we pay slightly more for the option.

I think only for your holiday insurance otherwise no.
Having only a single ticket isn't a problem with Eurotunnel. There was talk that your travel insurance was invalid if you didn't have a return ticket. I actually discussed this with my insurance provider and they told me a single ticket to Europe wasnt an issue. They did say that it was mainly a problem with gap year students who go off to the far east with single tickets and no planned return, thinking that a few weeks travel insurance could be extended to several months.

No need to pay extra for a flexible ticket on Eurotunnel as it's easy to just change your return date when you know the date you want to come back - just pay the difference between the price you paid and the new price.

I wouldn’t take a verbal assurance if their T&Cs say otherwise, If you give an insurance company any chance of not paying out they’ll take it.

Hello further to my recent post, I have contacted Aviva travel insurance who are the providers for the nationwide flex plus account and also the AA who provide the breakdown cover. Aviva said there is no problem in not buying a return ticket provided your stay is no longer than 31 days. The AA who provide the breakdown service for flex plus account said there is no need to buy return tickets. They do not need to know the dates that you’re travelling. So I’ll buy a one way ticket out and decide when I’m over, there when to buy my ticket home .Thanks for your help.

I agree that this is in line with their terms and conditions. There is nowhere (that I saw) in the T & C's that states you have to have a return journey booked. This only comes into play when you book a trip extension for a trip beyond 31 days as you are asked to confirm you have a return journey booked before you buy - as shown in my previous post but I will attach the screenshot again for anyone who has missed it.

Re - Breakdown - it make sense you don't have to have return a trip booked. It is just breakdown cover for your vehicle anywhere in the UK and the EU. Generally for an annual policy (and certainly Nationwide/AA) it doesn't specify holidays/trips/dates - it's just 24/7 cover.

Nationwide over 31 day extension.....
