Replacing tyres, by law, at 10 yrs old

Bought it today . Picking up on trailer a week today , straight in for tyre change and exhaustive service . Front clam repaint booked in for end of June , and then ……… I get to drive the bloody thing ! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Is that unusual to be in the Gold Leaf livery ?

Wow, so paying a small fortune from a dealer doesn't get you a road ready vehicle?

Peace of mind , it’s been a Garage Queen for all its life . I however will be driving it everyday but I’m aware of its status as a classic car so you have to be respectful . In 24 yrs it has lost £4K in depreciation so it’s an investment as well as a joy to drive .

61 cars produced for the UK market in 2000 so it’s rare and collectible. They are arguably ( the S1 Elise ) the finest handling sports car ever built .

The most important things on any vehicle are brakes and tyres.

I understand where you're coming from, my wife and I looked at a 1998 s1 Elise with very low miles about 8 yrs ago. The issue was that we would to drive it...so the incredibly low miles wouldn't stay that way for long and within a few years it would be normal for a Lotus...so the premium we would have paid over an average mileage version would be for nought (Yours may be a little different as it is a limited edition model)

Even with driving it ( 4K a year max I would imagine ) and with lots of loving care ( I tend to cosset all my vehicles ) I don’t think it will ever be worth less than £20 K .
Anyone who has ever driven a Lotus car pre China will know they are very easy to fall in love with ( and that includes the VX220 , a fine fine car forever tainted by a terrible ad campaign ) .

Lightness, an important factor for most motorhomes as well
:)

However ......

If you are involved in an accident where the cause is a old tyre blowout that results in a death.
You will be serving time measured in years.
You think!

You need to stop giving an opinion as fact.

As this original post was a bit of a non story.

1) The rule doesn't apply to motorhomes.

2) the trailer wheel coming off was NOT because of a tyre.

🤷‍♂️

Yup, it will be cheaper to own and run (provided you don't go mad with Ohlins upgrades etc) than a Ford Fiesta when you take depreciation into acct. Enjoy it..as I'm certain you will. (y)

You do know what lotus stands for right ?

Lots Of Trouble Usually Serious

A few decades out of date....an old mucker had an Eclat in the mid 90s....that definitely did come under that description of L O T U S
I had a 1989 lotus esprit back in 2001/2 it looked lovely but jeeso it was unreliable. Every show I went to the lotus club reminded me of that name. 😂

Its no my opinion its the opinion of the lotus owners club

And most of the other car clubs lol.. it was them who told me 🤣🤣
This is my fifth Lotus since 2002 ( S2 Elise , S2 Elise , S2 Exige , S3 Exige , S1 Elise ) and that adage is simply not true . Pre 1996 perhaps but not since . The cars are by no means perfect but their plus points far out way their quirks . For simple driving pleasure they have no equal . Ive tried other marques and there is no comparison . As Lotus themselves say , “ For The Drivers “
I must say i do admire and envy you re Esprit ownership , awesome supercar. I saw the last V8 ever made at the factory ( on its way to the USA ) , it was a thing of beauty .

Do you have a jacket and baseball cap with "lotus" on them?

Plenty of youtube videos of tyres exploding. You don't want to be close!
Even a bicycle tyre exploding can do a surprising amount of damage and write off a wheel (or a hand if too close)
Agree, as a minimum give you a helluva fright and ear ache!

Part of the reason this came up is a 17 seat Scout minibus was towing a canoe trailer down the M1 a couple of weeks ago.
The outside wheel came off the trailer and overtook the minibus.
The wheel bounced over the central reservation and then scraped down the side of an oncoming car.

The M1 had to be closed in both directions to clear up the mess.
The police specifically checked the age of all the tyres, on both minibus and trailer.

Luckily no serious damage done, the occupants of the car had a lucky escape and the canoe trailer is probably a write off.
It’s scary when a wheel from your trailer overtakes you it’s even scarier when one of your wheels goes past from the vehicle your driving…..at least that’s what I found a friend told me many years ago 😂

I had the rear wheel come of a vauxhall cavalier estate on the M 8 motorway west bound back in 1997 ...I was doing 70+ at the time and my then wife was 7 months pregnant.. that was quite scary ...we did a good spin before landing on the hardshoulder in a shower of sparks .. the whole hub had come off due to an incorrect bearing repair by previous owner. Fortunately it was a Sunday evening and road was quiet . Wife nearly gave birth 🤣

P.s that car was a 300 quid banger and the tyres were probably over 10 years old ...but had nowt to do with the wheel coming off 😁

Meh ..the mk1 mazda mx5 is the best handling sports car ever built.

Nicer looking I think too 😁

I miss mine so much

...cute little things but...
Never liked the mk2 but the mk1 was a beautiful car , and handled like a go cart .

Voted the best roadster for eons
