Im a newbie
Hi All, we have a 2001 reg Compass Avantgarde.

It has a full size 'traditional' cooker with 4 burner hob, grill and oven.

We never use the oven (part from storage!) and rarely use more than 2 hobs.

To make better use of space and to reduce weight I'm thinking of replacing it with either a 3 burner hob wth small oven/grill or a 3 burner hob with grill (see pics). The oven/grill option might be more attractive to buyers if/when we ever sell it? (no plans to).

The work would involve some new carcass/cupboard construction and a new worktop (to fit new hob dimensions).

Has anyone done similar? with any helpful comments?

Thanks

If it’s working well then it seems like an unecessary expense in an old van. It if doesn’t work then that’s entirely different. Unless you’re a master craftsman it will always look a bit of a bodge and less attractive should you decide to sell it. Worktops , doorfronts not matching.

I agree with carolyn if it's not broke and all that
Seems a lot of work and cost for little gain and what you get will not be of the quality already there.

If it ain’t broke…….leave it alone!

Why not replace the whole lot with an induction hob, lithium battery and inverter and not bother with LPG for cooking ?

It will cost a fair bit to do a good job even if you are doing it yourself. If you only use 2 rings to cook I bet you still use the others as trivets when moving pans around so not having that ability could be a problem/inconvenience.

If you are trying to have more usable worktop space when the rings are in use you could remove the existing hob cover and use 2 separate covers (assuming the ones in use aren't diagonal or the 2 front ones). We used to put s/s electric plate covers on ours so we could stand stuff on the unused rings.

The amount of storage you'll gain will be pretty minimal so it seems a lot of effort and expense for very little benefit. Any weight saving would be used up with anything you stored in the new space anyway, not that it would be a lot.

Am with Minxy and others on this, do miss my oven, first van without, yes we have microwave and take remoska and airfryer but cooker took a lot less space.

Sounds good to me providing you can do a decent job, being an elderly van it doesn't matter that much that it won't be original.

Our current van we speced without an oven, last 3 vans all had ovens, we have not missed it. Fitted lithium and use an air fryer.
