Hi everyone, /
I bought a bentley motorhome this year in august, with a dome shaped satellite dish, which the seller, stated on purchase, that it has never worked !

Well not only doesn't it work, but when I put the control panel on, for water, and lights etc, the darn satellite dish, whirrs and whirrs, around, stops, starts up again, then shakes the van, as if the turntable is stuck, and causes me a lot of concerns and worry.

So mobile motorhome engineers, who is fixing the loo, disconnected the satellite completely for me, (as honestly didn't know where the noise was coming from, until this engineer came to see about the loo!).

Is it worth having this fixed or not please ? I usually use my Hotspot for the tv in this country, but what would happen on going overseas, and the hotspot is var too expensive to use there ?

So throwing it out there, about the COST for this to be repaired, Approx? and whether it is really worth having it done at all really ?
Thank you Caroline

I wouldn't bother repairing it. With Internet now you can get all the channels you need.its really redundant now. Just get a firestick.

Yes I bought a firestick and use hotspot, but thinking about the Med and Europe next year, so hotspot there is too expensive to use, I have been told ?

But the dish probably work beyond Toulouse France, local sims would be best option

Seriously, don't bother ...!! It's a dome so likely to be a small dish inside it anyway, so in the UK it could work well but outside the UK, you won't get a decent signal once you start heading South.
Get yourself a decent Mifi and a local SIM to whichever country you're in. If you want to spend money on something, treat yourself to a Starlink for all the internet you can eat !! Not cheap, but more effective than a dime sat dish.

Thanks Mr B,

What is a STARLink, as the other mifi routers, are only about 50 to 100 pound, so not that expensive. I use my hotspot and firestick at present.thanks for reaching out though with the advise I really appreciate it. LOOOVE this site, you guys and gals, are so informative, and ALL FREE hahah

Even if it’s fixed it will only pick up uk satellites to a certain point south. So unless it’s in excess of 80mm dish size it’s unlikely to be useful below mid France.

However, there are still parts of the uk that you can’t get mobile signal to run our firestick. So it would be useful then. But depends on the cost to get it sorted.

Starlink is basically a portable dish that enables you to be connected to the internet and enjoy very fast download speeds. It supplies a strong internet service wherever you are, apart from under a big tree of course. The monthly subscription is much higher than a local SIM card however but downloads are unlimited.

You can usually get them for around £300 .... and a lot less for pre loved ...though the monthly cost tends to put a lot of people off, plus there seems to a change to use outside of the UK being limited to two months at a time, there are a couple of members looking to 'test' the changes. If you don't tour more than two months at any one time outside if the UK, then it might be a reliable though expensive option.

Just be aware that when using local sims, like I use in France which is a Reglo from E.Leclerc, you would need a vpn to allow you to watch UK tv through a Firestick.
I use Surfshark which doesn’t workout very expensive when you take 2 year deal, usually get deals if you watch reviews of VPN’s on YouTube
