I hear plenty of good things about remapping but can anyone admit to a remap going wrong or know of anyone who has had it go wrong. I asked a reputable company about it and they said due to it being a Fiat with a Comfortmatic gearbox they wouldn't touch it.

I won’t get mine done.

It’s a Fiat 130bhp 2.3, the manufacturer uses a different turbo on the bigger output engines. I always think if the manufacturer can get more bang for buck, they would do it in the first place.

Of course this excludes things like a software downgrade in bhp to give the impression of a larger range of power outputs.

We have the same engine, had it remapped at 8k best thing we ever did, vehicle is now much more pleasant to drive, better MPG and purrs along sweet as, Definitely worth doing, a manufacturer will always take the cheapest and easiest option, hence the MK1...MK2...Mk3 etc etc.

The manufacturers might do the same but they have to comply with the Euro 6 standards and I am suspicious that remapping doesn’t.

Glad it’s worked.

I am just skeptical I suppose, I mean, why didn’t they do it in the first place if it’s so good?

What are the downsides?

I remember that, it effected the drive train somehow, if I remember correctly issues with prop vibration or similar.

Had my old bus remapped and makes it much better to drive and a lot less gear changes, so is actually going to make my clutch last longer, and I now get better fuel economy from it. Wish I had done it earlier.

Your correct diff propshaft torque converter even the gearbox (auto) had no effect in helping a new ecu cured the problem.

We used a company called Diesel Bob, They no longer provide a remap service but recommend Celtic Tuning in Cornwall Tel 0333 6000 669. or Ribble Valley Diesels Tel 01254 878 353.

Simple answer I guess they want you to pay the extra for the 150bhp or the 180bhp. Which is considerably more than a remap.

I guessing there are different programs in the remap world, we've had 7 Mot's since the remap and never failed on emissions so must be ok.

MOTs only test emissions at idle. Euro6 requirements test the vehicle under load. I think the Euro6final test puts the vehicle on a rolling road and takes a couple of hours for each of dozens of runs. Passing an MOT isn't the same as being Euro compliant.

The current MOT doesn’t check for NOX but there were consultations about changing this.

I had my 2.3 done when it had only a couple of hundred miles on the clock. It's now over 7years old and approaching 30k. I have never had an issue either at a couple of 'Recalls' or at MOT's.
The driving is incompatible, it's so much better.
I had it done at one of the shows by a company called Quantum, they were excellent.
I have previously had 2 cars done, a Subaru and a twin-turbo BMW. Never had a problem.

Euro 6 is mostly about NOX emissions and the MOT does not check NOX levels yet.

Yes I understand I was replying to Guigsy post of rolling road etc for test but I think he meant engine emissions testing but that I think is very specific testing at specialist facility premises and not in the budget of any mot station I have ever used

Had mine done by Quantum, chap came around my house and he also did my car.
3-0 Iveco engine, it made a lot off difference in the gear change so rather than going up and down the gears when cruising it stays in gear longer plus it pulls away a lot better. Done about 15k since and bonus is it seems to be 2-3 mpg better.

No vehicles are tested on a rolling road. They are all tested by free reving them

MOT emmisions IS going to include particulat testing , don't know if remap increases particulates ? According to an MOT station owner I spoke to this will fail a large number of standard vehicles that currently pass.
But you can have it returned to the old map and if applicable adblue reinstated.
