Refilling gas connection where to fit?

I often hear stories but have never experienced it. Never even been questioned once.
Not stories, we've had it happen to us which is why in our last 3 campers and our current MH I fitted the fillers outside.
Agreed. That's where mine is. I don't really understand why anyone would consider an external filler.
If it's outside you are less likely to be refused. Where there are plenty of outlets it's not such an issue but in some areas where they are few and far between it can be a real nuisance.

Mine is mounted through the van wall directly into the gas locker. I don't see a problem with having another filler visible, there are plenty of others water diesel ehu etc. Fitting in the skirt is too low down not as flexible as I was.
Incidentally I never fill with diesel and LPG at the same time/station as this is drawing attention to the gas not being used for propulsion. I don't find this any problem as I fill up diesel far more often than gas.
Fitting in the door is not practical on mine as the locker door is in the garage.

How about in the locker. It's where ours is never had a problem filling and no body drilling. Easy to remove just leaving 4 small screw holes
I never had a problem with the filler in the gas locker but I moved mine to the skirt because some pumps don’t give much clearance to open a top hinged gas locker door.

Go for the skirt, it is usually metal, therefore more robust than your door. Some of the filling nozzles are quite heavy and if it slips from your hand could stress your door.

Keith

I’ll agree with this. Also if you can’t reach the nozzle while pressing the button it’s unsupported and putting more unwanted pressure on the door.

ps I am looking for a small label which states “ auto gas”. To stick near the external filler .

Some of the U.K. bayonet filling points have ‘AUTOGAS’ already embossed on the removable cover.

Depends on where it is.
Ours is in the garage so if the gas locker door open you could get gas into the van as the garage is vented to the van.
Agreed. I was assuming separate gas locker.

I agree - but my own experience (15 years+ using Gaslow / Alugas) is that I have never been refused.

I have been refused with an external filler but I was able to blag it telling them it was a tank. Wouldn't have been able to do that if the filler was in the gas locker.
IMO just not worth the risk of fitting it internally. Also external filler makes filling easier.

Exactly.
I really don't understand why there is so much discussion, anxiety or reluctance about having an external filler.

Skirt fitting on ours, too.

If the skirt is only thin metal and slightly flexible, as is ours, fit a bracing strut back to the chassis member.

Still just a story for me:LOL:

Filled up at a garage in Calais last week. I had already closed both valves on the bottles before i got there. Filler is not in the locker door or in the locker. The guy came out to check before he would turn the pump on. He was satisfied when he saw that the filler was "remote" to any bottles/tank. Not the first time that has happened to us. I would not put it in the locker door as there is some weight on the fill point when filling and opening and closing the locker door could lead to the fill pipe "kinking/chafing or putting strain on the filler point resulting in a leak.
