Refillable cylinders anyone ? ⚠️🤬

The vapour pressure of Propane at 25C is about 10Bar or 145psi which is significantly higher than the much lower pressure of Butane. Refillable systems need to cope with filling pressures that can exceed 200psi.

Yes, I was just about to reply to Wildbill about that. At 20°c propane is about 8.5 bar and Butane (depending on the iso or n butane content) about 2.5 bar. The 160 tonnes of propane we used to store in the deck pressure vessel at sea (for cargo changeover and purging) in the tropics frequently sat at 15 bar due to some corporate idiot insisting on the tank being painted dark red like the rest of the deck instead of white

Nice how those draughty bottom vents have had coordinating carpet fitted over them to keep the cylinders snug.
I have a feeling the door fit at the bottom will not be be gas tight ;)

So come on then Basildog, tell us what you said to the 'customer'!
Basildog only said he was sent the picture so perhaps he hasn’t been able to say anything. We could have some fun making up our own replies. My suggestion.

No don’t bring it here, dial 999 and ask for bomb disposal.

The pressures I quoted are at room temperature when in the uk Will it ever get to 25c in a gas locker
At room temperature the pressures are significantly lower
Pumping pressures I agree are a lot higher
At 10 bar cigaret lighter would be exploding all over the place
Most petroleum gases stay in ther liquid state between 25 and 50 psi except in Siberia in the winter temperatures of -40 whare I have seen gas freeze on the ground when we had a leek during well testing gas icicle from the valve to the ground we tried to burn it in a safe location it was about two foot long it burned like a fuse and not that rapidly
It was a interesting experiment

I suspect this is in a Hymer, which usually has a gap between the door and floor to provide the gas drop out. The positions of the larger bottle and filler point suggests there is that gap, otherwise they would stop the locker door from closing.

Beaten to it by Martin

The gas stored in a bottle is a mixture of liquid and vapour. 25C is a warm but not hot summers day and would be regularly encountered even in the UK. Room temperature is generally regarded as 20-22C which is not so far below 25C. Gas lighters use Butane not Propane, Butane has a much lower pressure.

Just looked again and noticed that these”hoses” if used to fill up would feed the liquid gas straight in the the reg and the van, they didn’t fit one of These so they can switch off the inlet so the vapour can flow.

Well spotted 😳

I wonder why they went to the extra expense of getting brass gas fittings,
I'd have thought conventional steel bathroom plumbing fittings would have been cheaper and easier to get from B&Q.
And instead of the gas hoses they could've used shower hoses!

Are you sure it’s not a launch vehicle for Amazons satellites!!

He should have painted them yellow then no one would have noticed the plumbing.
