Clarification from DGT, via N332's FB, that "furrin' vehicles may continue to use red triangles and do not have to invest in V-16 beacons. I presume that you'll still have to carry two .....

"The DGT Publishes an Instruction to Clarify the Use of V-16 Signals in Cases of International Circulation in our Country"

Spain is the first country to mandate the use of this connected and luminous device starting January 1, 2026.
The Vienna Convention stipulates that countries may require, to allow
✅
"international circulation" within their territory, that vehicles carry a warning device consisting of

"an equilateral triangular plate"
🔺
or "any other device of equivalent effectiveness prescribed by the legislation of the COUNTRY where the vehicle is REGISTERED
THEREFORE, vehicles registered in other countries driving in Spain under "international circulation" will comply with the regulations IF they use the traditional warning triangles.
ON THE OTHER HAND, vehicles registered in
🇪🇸
Spain driving under "international circulation" in another signatory country of any of the existing conventions will comply with the regulations by using the new connected and luminous V-16

warning device, without the need to carry the traditional triangles

Interesting -
allow some parts of the 1968 Convention on Road Traffic
but, disallow other parts (tow cars must be on trailers )

Nothing like picking and choosing - I wonder if the Convention actually allows this ??

Interesting.
If, for example, a Spanish MH breaks down in Finland and deploys the geolocating beacon, will the local services have access to this information?

Another £3.40 wasted .the AliExpress V16 lamp arrived yesterday even bought the more expensive one with rechargeable cell...ah well the white light will make a useful stick on light ::bigsmile:

Presumably the connected v16s have a Spanish sim and call home when activated - doubt that DGT is going to relay that info to the Finns or anyone else ...

I still haven't had a answer to queries to DGT and N332 as to where I'm supposed to stick it on my 3m high plastic and alloy bodied vehicle ...

To be covered under the Vienna convention they have to be approved & legal in the home country. They are not in the UK ,just "accepted" . Until they have been tested in court as to whether the towing system is legal & the modifications to the front cross member,if any, do not compromise the 2007 "anti -tuning" directive ,they do not come under the vienna convention.
