Recommended gas bbq for 2 people please

Another vote for the baby Weber, with a caveat. Ensure you plumb it into the van’s gas. The Weber gas canisters are expensive, hard to find in some places, and don’t last long.

I have a non-stick mat for some stuff and a fine mesh grid mat for cooking pizzas.
Yes we did that too as we have an external gas point. (y)

That's what we do perfect for all the smelly fatty stuff you don't want to cook in the van. Who wants to flap about with a smelly BBQ when you are on holiday, no thanks.
Horses for courses. Love the BBQ, and bought the Weber portable stand too. I modified it to have a work surface mounted on one side. I put an induction ring on that.

We have a Cadac Safari Chef ll and tried the BBQ on it today for the first time. I did a bit of research before about how to use it and one tip I picked up was to pour a little water into the base of the wind shield.

There is a hollow that forms a "moat" all around the burner in the wind shield so I poured about half a cup of water into it before adding the BBQ Griddle. During the cooking, keep adding a little more water through the holes in the griddle into the "moat"
Grease produced during cooking drops down into the water rather that onto the hot Wind Shield and so doesn't flare up.

Second tip was to have a flexible bucket like a trug, with some soapy water in. As soon as you have finished cooking, lift the BBQ Grill with metal tongs into the water to let it soak while you enjoy your food. Because there is water in the moat of the Wind Shield, the grease does not burn on to the metal and only requires a wipe to clean it.

Slightly different to the normal answers, I have an Outback U-BBQ. Just about big enough for 2, runs off a gas canister, comes in a plastic case, small enough to carry on a cycle and easy to clean.

Shop around, they may be cheaper elsewhere........
We've got a similar version, slightly bigger grill area, cooks brilliantly

Can't find ours at a sensible price now but came across this:

Thanks for the tips.

We liked our Cadac bbq but we got the bigger one and its too big when we're away. The tips are good for the smaller version - you'd never get our big one in a tub trug. We got the bigger one as it was on a stand. Do you find it OK to cook on the lower one, or do you stand it on something?

Thanks for all your suggestions - its been helpful to narrow down the selection available. :)

It

It is - I've got the Lidl version, couldn't justify the branded version to myself - but it does exactly what it claims to - seriously I carry a freezer bag of charcoal for a week away.

We've got the Lidl one too. Bought it in Belgium for 39 euros so much cheaper than the Lotus one. Its sturdy, comes in a bag, quick to get up to temperature, burns all the charcoal, so no waste, cool on the outside, can be used on a table, very easy to clean, big enough for two. I love the stainless steal liner. We haven't used our cadac since we got this.

Weber Baby Q 1200 . love mine .. I've tried and owned many.. Cadac, included.. none as good this..

I do most of my cooking on it.. roasting, grilling, and heating up Pizza etc ..

not cheap but sometimes see offers on them at Go Outdoors
A big yes from me too. We call ours the Alfresco Cooker... we grill, we BBQ, we roast, we bake...

And the tip about heating the BBQ with lid down and then wire brushing after 10mins works every time.

We have used a Campinggaz Party Grill 200 for the past 2 years. It has the water "moat" below the hot plate which does make cleaning up a bit easier. Gas canisters widely available. I think it cost about £50 from Go.

I agree the Safari Chef 2 would be too low if you use it on the ground but we bought one of these from Aldi last week when they were reduced from £9.99 to £7.99.

Gives you plenty of space around the cadac for food, skewers tongs etc. Folds flat and lightweight.

Forget gas not a proper BBQ...
Lotus grill
https://www.lotusgrilluk.com/grills/LGR-G-STD
Cupful of charcoal, 15mins to get to temp thanks to battery fan. Grill fits in dishwasher
Perfect for 2, Proper BBQ
If price too rich, wait for the Lidl version Florabest... brilliant.

If you want to cook on gas outside then get one of those cannister camping stoves for a tenner.

Another vote for the little Lotus Grill. I find it's very quick & easy to set up & ready to cook within 5 mins too. And it is the easiest to clean I have used so far.
Economic also as it uses very little c/coal to cook a meal for two. Expensive? Yes maybe but as you all know you get what you pay for. We've been using ours for around 5 years or so now. Nice little grill...

At most only a ocassional barbeque user, now not at all, but found the disposable ones easy. Light easily and after use throw away. Available at most pound shops etc.
