Recommendations please.

Thanks MisterB, new to the forum. Thought the title I used was enough on the UK Touring section.
Keith.

It's only my opinion, doesn't mean I am right 😁😁😁

This is out first year vanning, in a MWB Ducato with 300w Solar, fixed bed, diesel hob, diesel air heater, shower/ toilet and fridge/freezer. No hot water yet and things like b2b and better suspension will wait for the first "winter" layup.
Until we have experience and confidence, we will stick to campsites and cl/cs sites from March to Octoberish.
Not against park4nite etc but not this year.
We like coast/country scenery, walking, stately/country homes/gardens, market towns/villages; and sites within walking distance would be brill (or good bus routes , would our bus passes work anywhere?)
Have queries about "clubs" but will start another thread.
We intend to do 10 to 14 days each trip once a month and typically 2 to 3 nights each campsite (a good reason to get b2b earlier?)although perhaps just one night enroute at say a cl, unless there is plenty to do in the area. Used to do long distances but would prefer no more than 150m in one go these days. We are based in Tyne & Wear.

SO, recommendations please for campsites whether club or private in North & West Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Staffs, Cheshire, Shropshire, North &Mid Wales and SW Scotland.

I know this is a big ask but would much appreciate your time. At our age, time is pressing. If all goes well, we will seriously consider Spain in our second winter.
Thanks,
Happy Jack.
Kirkcudbright and Garlieston are excellent.

Try this for Scottish National Parks been to them all , lovely. You get C&C Club discount.

All the Morris Leisure sites in Staffordshire / Shropshire and Wales are excellent if expensive (you get what you pay for with them). Still don't understand why you have to pay (CAMC) for extras such as an awning if it doesn't and cannot extend larger than your pitch site? We don't have an awning on our moho, we have a canopy.......you should hear the arguments I get into with wardens over the difference between the two.

Hi Tony.
We have a Fiamma F45s Awning/Canopy ?
Does that mean we pay extra?
How much extra?
Keith

Do you have to pay extra for awnings on CMC sites? Maybe things have changed, but in the past awning or non-awning was just a mechanism for allocating pitches accordingly to size of MH or Caravan. Whenever I use a CMC site (very rare now) I ignore the awning or not designation, I just want a pitch and go for whatever is available. However, I don’t think I’ve ever paid extra because I’ve opted for an unwanted awning pitch.

Don't go to Scotland or Wales as they don't accept English bus passes. To be fair, in Wales they always tell us they can't accept them then they usher us in anyway.

It's a bit embarassing when you travel on the same bus the next day and in all innocence show your bus pass only to see the same driver as before:giggle:

One thing I've noticed over the years, the certificated sites often don't want your membership number frequently have more than 5 vans and are usually more expensive than the site book would lead you to believe. But it is probably still the cheapest way to camp in this country.
And often the best.

Folkranger, so I can use my bus pass anywhere in England?I
Think I will be looking at cl/cs/ths sites mainly, the occasional really quiet one but usually one near to our interests as earlier stated.

BobbyDaisy, SeasideBill,Tony the Manc.
Will look at your suggestions and get back to you.
Lots on today, hope to have time later.

What’s the difference between the 2? I just assumed ours was an awning but maybe it’s a canopy??

BobbyDaisy, looked at "Best campsites in Scotland" as you suggested.
Lots of good info but not just for Scotland.
Will be using it for researching areas, planning, and bookin.

Tony the Manc, had a look at the Morris sites.
Think we will make use of some of them.

A canopy is normally permanently attached to your van ( also called a wind out awning) whereas an awning is usually a fabric “tent “ like structure that you attach to your van whilst on site or free standing next to your van .Here’s an awning .

We can recommend the Morris Leisure site at Shrewsbury. Great pub with lovely food just down the road, a couple of take aways within walking distance and a park and ride near the entrance to the site.

Definitely recommend Spain for the winter.

For umpteen things to do within walking distance of the site, plus buses nearby, I can recommend the CAMC site at Warwick racecourse: town centre and its' environs, take-aways, swimming pool, the river and parks, buses to Stratford and Leamington Spa- and more, are all within easy walking distance of the site. Dog walking on the track around the racecourse, and you can walk or cycle to the nearest supermarket. If you visit during the Warwick folk Festival (27th to 30th July this year), you can book day tickets or concert tickets - again, walking distance from the site, and you don't need camping chairs either ! ( You can also camp on the Festival site itself) During the festival there are performances in the pubs and streets, plus Smith Street is closed off on the Saturday for a market - a great atmosphere.

I know CAMC isn't cheap, but the location of this site is compensation.

Thanks BobbyDaisy. It is a Canopy/wind-out awning we have so will select pitches accordingly.
Keith.

Dalesfolk, Warwick sounds just great. Will look at it although don't do music events. We were spoilt in our late teens, saw all the top groups in a regular basis for beans.
Think the expense not worth it these days.
Incidentally my "Monica", Happy Jack taken from the Who single. Saw them live in 69. Brill.

Nothing wrong with Park for the Night ,Most are very friendly and helpful and like myself are Motorhome or Campervan owners, Have a look at our place on Park for the Night in S/W Scotland .Glen Duich Aire , £8 a night inc water .

Hi Squaddie. Yes had a look at your place. Will be ideal first stop for us. We are planning SW Scotland later this year.
I did say p4n not this year but since we have solar we can definitely do some. The cost saving on camc sites would be well worthwhile.
Keith.
