Thanks MisterB, new to the forum. Thought the title I used was enough on the UK Touring section.

Kirkcudbright and Garlieston are excellent. This is out first year vanning, in a MWB Ducato with 300w Solar, fixed bed, diesel hob, diesel air heater, shower/ toilet and fridge/freezer. No hot water yet and things like b2b and better suspension will wait for the first "winter" layup.
Until we have experience and confidence, we will stick to campsites and cl/cs sites from March to Octoberish.
Not against park4nite etc but not this year.
We like coast/country scenery, walking, stately/country homes/gardens, market towns/villages; and sites within walking distance would be brill (or good bus routes , would our bus passes work anywhere?)
Have queries about "clubs" but will start another thread.
We intend to do 10 to 14 days each trip once a month and typically 2 to 3 nights each campsite (a good reason to get b2b earlier?)although perhaps just one night enroute at say a cl, unless there is plenty to do in the area. Used to do long distances but would prefer no more than 150m in one go these days. We are based in Tyne & Wear.
SO, recommendations please for campsites whether club or private in North & West Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Staffs, Cheshire, Shropshire, North &Mid Wales and SW Scotland.
I know this is a big ask but would much appreciate your time. At our age, time is pressing. If all goes well, we will seriously consider Spain in our second winter.
Thanks,
Happy Jack.

Planning SW Scotland in Sept or Oct this year.

All the Morris Leisure sites in Staffordshire / Shropshire and Wales are excellent if expensive (you get what you pay for with them). Still don't understand why you have to pay (CAMC) for extras such as an awning if it doesn't and cannot extend larger than your pitch site? We don't have an awning on our moho, we have a canopy.......you should hear the arguments I get into with wardens over the difference between the two. This is out first year vanning, in a MWB Ducato with 300w Solar, fixed bed, diesel hob, diesel air heater, shower/ toilet and fridge/freezer. Do you have to pay extra for awnings on CMC sites? Maybe things have changed, but in the past awning or non-awning was just a mechanism for allocating pitches accordingly to size of MH or Caravan. Whenever I use a CMC site (very rare now) I ignore the awning or not designation, I just want a pitch and go for whatever is available. However, I don’t think I’ve ever paid extra because I’ve opted for an unwanted awning pitch. All the Morris Leisure sites in Staffordshire / Shropshire and Wales are excellent if expensive (you get what you pay for with them). And often the best. One thing I've noticed over the years, the certificated sites often don't want your membership number frequently have more than 5 vans and are usually more expensive than the site book would lead you to believe. But it is probably still the cheapest way to camp in this country.
What’s the difference between the 2? I just assumed ours was an awning but maybe it’s a canopy??All the Morris Leisure sites in Staffordshire / Shropshire and Wales are excellent if expensive (you get what you pay for with them). A canopy is normally permanently attached to your van ( also called a wind out awning) whereas an awning is usually a fabric “tent “ like structure that you attach to your van whilst on site or free standing next to your van .Here’s an awning .What’s the difference between the 2? Squaddies place looks great ,on our list next time we go “South”Hi Squaddie. Yes had a look at your place. Will be ideal first stop for us. We are planning SW Scotland later this year.
I did say p4n not this year but since we have solar we can definitely do some. The cost saving on camc sites would be well worthwhile.
