Recommendations please for small gas bbq

Our Benimar has an outside BBQ point, are these universal? I’d like something like the Cadac Safari Chef but that runs on our MH gas supply, ours is a small van so don’t want to carry extra gas bottles...

Also the “gas flap” on the outside doesn’t have a lock on it...so can someone nick all my gas or should there be an internal cutoff?
I would guess (we have an AT) the external gas point will be a Bullfinch connection like this

Ours has an internal cut-off valve just inside from the outlet.
We also have a Cadac Safari Chef.

We’ve had several different Cadac Gas grills/bbqs.
The best one was the Cadac Safari Chef but a bit bulky for us to store, we FT in 6 mtrs so not masses of space!

Also it's not a true barbecue, just a gas grill, so no BBQ flavour. I have mine connected to van gas with outlet. It does the job.
I probably prefer disposable BBQ for convenience, but had one or two recently that failed to light.
👍🏻 Agreed. But it’s a full time job trying to correct people with the distinction between cooking out side with gas and using a charcoal BBQ
☹️

IMV when it comes to barbecues Weber can't be beaten, be it charcoal or gas.. they do two portable gas models..

Go-Anyhwere gas model , I have the charcoal model ..
https://www.riversidegardencentre.co.uk/weber-go-anywhere-gas-bbq.html

and the Weber Q1200. which I also have and highly recommend.. but it's a bit bulky , so check dimensions . I remove the lid to pack in the locker.. just two hinge pins
We have the Q1200 gas bbq and also the folding stand. The bbq unclips very easily from the stand. Absolutely love it. Robust, cooks well, easy to clean. We’ve had ours for 6 years now and never misses a beat.

You can’t go far wrong with a Weber Q1200 with the additional Rotisserie for added versatility.
Good deal at wowbbq.co.uk @ £274.99 for both.

Thanks all.
I do know the difference between gas and coal...
Using coal is messy and takes ages, but tastes better
Using gas is easy, quick and allows you to simply cook outside on a nice day without stinking out the MH.

It’s the latter that we prefer 👍 Benimar provide the gas point so why not use it

Our garden gas bbq has plates over the burners that effectively burn any fat that falls down, smoking the food in a similar way to coal. It’s obviously not the same, but better than just using an outdoor gas hob style thing..

Had the big Cadac... worst thing ever personally all round so sold it. Still have small Weber charcoal which we use normally and as a fire source for battery operated spit roast above. With gas looked at the Charbroil as above but went for the Napoleon TravelQ 285 in the end. Stunning twin burner big enough to cook full turkey at Xmas in Spain perfect. Use it as an oven all the time when away. Clean mine with aerosol brake cleaner.... when cold obviously... comes up a treat. Maybe a bit wide with the handles for some. I stand mine on a bait table with four independent levelling feet. Best gas BBQ I've ever had and I've tried them all. Nearly £300 but you wont regret it.

That looks amazing, would have to check if we could pack that into our small camper plus the gas connections but that’s now on my shortlist 👍 cheers

Why do peps insist on calling outdoor grilling or frying a bbq?
I like to cook outdoors - in fact it's probably the only cooking I ever do - and I use a cheap cartridge gas ring with a big skillet on top for the van.
If I want to bbq I light a real fire with wood and cook over the embers - now that's a bbq!
Pedantry or what.

Help. I'm looking for a small gas bbq, preferably double burner that I can stow away easy enough when not in use, that doesn't take too long to set up/dismantle

I don't want one of the table top single gas cooker type stoves that you buy a gas cartridge for, its really a bbq that I want !!

can anyone recommend any or has anyone adapted a standard one for easy transportation and stowage??

I bought this early last year, very happy with it, cleans easily
Works of the butane gas canisters but cooks nice and hot
Amazon product ASIN B00Q4XSK1S

Love the cadac because its compact, sits on a table, an has proved totally reliable - so minimum faff. Not really bothered if its not a "proper bbq" - it's the cooking outside experience that I was after (and get) with it. Its been discussed in other threads and there are some simple ways to make cleaning it easy as well.

I call it "Alfresco cooking"....

I have just bought the Cadac 2 cook 2 pro and it seems to be just right. Small enough to stow, big enough to cook on with two burners, and changeable pot stands and flat grill and ribbed grill. Easily cleaned, and £109 from Hamiltons gas products.

Try the o grill it is easy to store and is really good to cook on.
IWould really recommend.

Cadac Grillo-Chef. size is between the large carri-chef and the tiny safari chef, works well for us with various pans and the pizza stone, very versatile, we use it most days

Asda do a perfectly usable portable BBQ for £45. Why waste your money on big brand stuff? Ours has lasted 3 years already, been abused thoroughly and is still usable. Yes, it is cheap imported tat, but it does the job and is very compact. I've cooked hot dogs for 15 on it at a single sitting.

It's a generic term for outdoor cooking, like hoover for vacuum cleaners, Formica for laminate,
simples !!

BBQ means cooking food in the heat from its own burning fat. Whether you use gas, wood or charcoal to heat it up enough to release it's own fat to burn makes little difference.

Digging through old threads again....

Still not got the MH yet...roll on Monday 20th! Thanks

You should have a valve to disconnect the point. However, finding it might be difficult. It will either be a single valve tucked away somewhere, or it might be with a collection of other gas valves on a "manifold". Or it might have been fitted badly without a valve. In any case, you should be able to connect your BBQ to your outlet point (you'll need to replace the regulator with a compatible connector). The only issue is that it will be 30mb, rather than the 37mb the BBQ expects. However, the worst case is that it won't be as powerful on max. It's not like a water heater than might seriously malfunction on a lower pressure than it was designed for (although even then anything less than 20 years old will expect 30mb anyway).

As for universal, there are two main types. The Bullfinch, which is a red bayonet connector and a "quick release" type. A quick check on eBay will tell you which type you have.

The Outdoor Chef because of it's clever funnel design requires almost zero input from the user - you can literally time whatever food you put on for perfect results. The funnel design eliminates fat flare ups so no carcegenic burnt food, no dancing the food around the grille. Funnel design gives the food a much better bbq flavour than most gas bbqs. I have two more I use at home - one I have had for over 25yrs.

Never sold in huge numbers because people could not gat their heads around the no coals concept
Thanks for pointing me to this, just what I’m looking for! Which model do you have.

Buy both and when you decide you prefer the Chelsea I'll buy the mini of you at 2nd-hand price!:whistle2::laughing:

We use this bad-boy.

Also have a CADAC but its a pain to clean and taking the legs off every time we move somewhere else is a faff.

This is cheap, cooks like a proper "gas" BBQ and has LAVA rock for flavour. Just brush the wire grille with a wire brush and put away.

It is better to keep if flat in a plastic box and you will sometimes have to rearrange the lava rock if you have travelled over bumpy ground but it does cook a mean steak.

We do still use the CADAC but mainly for breakfast or the Paella pan. IMO, the CADAC is crap cooking a ribeye or fillet steak.
