enough to know i shouldnt touch things i know nothing about ....
Help. I'm looking for a small gas bbq, preferably double burner that I can stow away easy enough when not in use, that doesn't take too long to set up/dismantle

I don't want one of the table top single gas cooker type stoves that you buy a gas cartridge for, its really a bbq that I want !!

can anyone recommend any or has anyone adapted a standard one for easy transportation and stowage??

I like my cadac safari chef but it's a bit of a faf to clean if your just doing a small amount of meat, say one chop each.
Also it's not a true barbecue, just a gas grill, so no BBQ flavour. I have mine connected to van gas with outlet. It does the job.
I probably prefer disposable BBQ for convenience, but had one or two recently that failed to light.

Got weber Q1200 but similar statement to above but it does have fold out flaps has temp gauge though

Have had lots of BBQ’s and really can’t see by my Outdoorchef City Grill, have converted two other funsters to it as well. ;)

We have a Cadac safari chef, only about 15" diameter and packs away in its carry bag. I just cooked 2 pork chops and a couple of sausages on ours, really easy to clean. We also have Cadac chef which is bigger, and is more cumbersome to carry and clean, that will be staying at home now we have the smsller one.

This is pretty small :D

Careful when your cooking chicken though (y)

Had the cadac...hubby hated it.....had the Weber charcoal ...can be messy and didnt think safe to use in the Algarve after all the fires there ...now have a CampinGaz small bbq ..the lid also acts as a wok..and has a water reservoir for steaming etc ..love it and easy to clean..

Kath..

Ove the years I have had more BBQ's than I have had hot dinners. The worst I had was the Cadac, dont know the name but it was the big one. Bought a new one of Amazon a few weeks abo and it is by far the best I have ever owened. Uses gas canisters but you can but an adapter to use bottles or direct from your van. Very easy to clean and good range of temp control.

IMV when it comes to barbecues Weber can't be beaten, be it charcoal or gas.. they do two portable gas models..

Go-Anyhwere gas model , I have the charcoal model ..

and the Weber Q1200. which I also have and highly recommend.. but it's a bit bulky , so check dimensions . I remove the lid to pack in the locker.. just two hinge pins

We have the outdoor chef "City Grill" as well and its good but quite bulky, on that note I recently bought a Cadac Safari chef 2 and have been really impressed with its cooking ability.

What is the weight of the Weber Q1200? It’s looks small but heavy?

The Outdoor Chef because of it's clever funnel design requires almost zero input from the user - you can literally time whatever food you put on for perfect results. The funnel design eliminates fat flare ups so no carcegenic burnt food, no dancing the food around the grille. Funnel design gives the food a much better bbq flavour than most gas bbqs. I have two more I use at home - one I have had for over 25yrs.

Never sold in huge numbers because people could not gat their heads around the no coals concept

I bought one much like this from Homebase last year, from memory it was £29.99 , runs on small cylinders readily available and is in a case.

Good, haven’t had a chance to use ours yet (y)

Its fast to get going and easy to clean, we get 4 BBQs per gas cartridge and it packs away very small.
Weve done the Cadac and others, this beats them all for cooking for up to 4 people

Another vote for the Cadac Safari Chef - good temperature control, very light and it packs away small. I also find it easy to clean - though we do tend to wait until we're on a campsite to clean it (it just gets a good wipe out then the fat tray and the cooking surface get put in plastic shopping bags and stored away in the Cadac bag).

We've also got a 10 year old Carri Chef (the larger one) which we use in the garden at home because its too bulky for our limited outside storage. I do find that that the larger one has a tendency to go out if there's a strong wind, but we've not had similar problems with the Safari Chef - the design seem to shield the flame much better.

I also recall from discussions on another camping forum before we bought the Carri Chef that there used be to an issue with Cadacs run from the small canisters (the HP ones) and that they didn't get very hot. But we've always had the LP versions which fun from full size gas bottles or the MH BBQ point and they've been fine.

It is heavier than some small BBQs, but that is only because the cooking grate itself is porcelain enamelled cast iron, which is what makes it a very good BBQ. The outside of the BBQ is made of cast aluminium and supported on a plastic frame. So no rust anywhere.

The grill holds heat and enables searing of the food without burning. And, as long as you cook it the American way, i.e. top down and low heat, you will end up with food that is nicely brown (not black!) on the outside and succulently cooked on the inside. That is because with the lid down there are fewer flair ups (less oxygen) which causes the burning.

Put baco foil below my grate so i dont have to clean anymore than the cooking grate the drips still run down foil into bottom tray so makes no difference to taste just keeps bbq cleaner

Thanks everyone. just bought a cadac safari chef 2 LP brand new for 89.99 from Weeley !!

Digging through old threads again....

Our Benimar has an outside BBQ point, are these universal? I’d like something like the Cadac Safari Chef but that runs on our MH gas supply, ours is a small van so don’t want to carry extra gas bottles...

Also the “gas flap” on the outside doesn’t have a lock on it...so can someone nick all my gas or should there be an internal cutoff?

Still not got the MH yet...roll on Monday 20th! Thanks

Cadac vote from me, had the small fold up one on out pvc but now have safari on our coach built. Selling the gold up one As surplus’s if your interested pm me
