Tried searching using wrench, ratchet, socket driver keywords but can only find 3/8"

I want 1/4" because I have lots of sockets. Don't want 1/2" as it would be too big.
I do not want to buy a 3/8" socket set.

I don't want to get the the 3/8ths and use an adapter as it would make it too long for the use case I need it for.

£30-£40. Cheap because it will be soooo rarely used. But when needed worth having.

Any recommendations? Thanks (y)

IF you can find any TengTool equipment 2nd hand, grab it.
They do a number of 1/4" socket sets and, although not cheap, not as high as some.
I bought all mine new, as they have a lifetime warranty, at least 25yrs ago and used a lot for the first 15yrs.
TengTools were/are used by Ed China.

I have a 1/4" Bacho set , bought in 1995 .. still going strong .. great quality

1/4 battery powered ratchet

edit... just checked, probably too expensive for your needs
Bahco used to be an excellent brand, but when my local builders merchants had a promotion a couple of years ago and I had a look and instantly surprised how the quality had deteriorated so checked the packaging - Made in China.

IMHO tools are a classic case of buy cheap and buy twice. I've tried cheaper tools and all that happens is that the badly fitting ones round the nuts off or even snap.

For occasional 1/4" I'd struggle to justify anything more than TEMU's cheapest adapters

Not surprised, many other premium, hi-end and luxury brands also have factories in China ..

Apple, Fujifilm Cameras and many more

History of Bachco

Bahco is a Swedish brand within the hand tool industry, which is now part of SNA Europe, part of Snap-on...

Snap-On also have factories in China

I didn't know battery powered ratchets existed. Now I want one!

But I'd have to be using it every day and be getting paid for using it to be able to justify buying one.

I'm addicted to tool port! OH is nearly as bad, but she's into kitchen gadget porn as well. I think the Lakeland catalogue should come in a plain wrapper!

Seen those adapters. Not what I am looking for. The Bahco above is more what I am after. Thanks tho.

I want one for doing chinese diesel heaters. A ratchet is a pain in the ass to use as the movement angles within the turret are so small. Takes ages.
Hence me not wanting to spend more than around £40.

If I could find a UK supplier I my pay over the odds for Bahco. I have their 1/4" and 1/2" socket sets. Really great quality.

Wera do a 1/4" drive manual ratchet with a very small angular movement required to function. Still slow, but not much wasted movement. Spotted it a while ago while looking for a rachet screwdriver.

It might sound stupid, but I have used a Lidl special electric screwdriver to spin small nuts & bolts to about 10mm. Surprisingly powerful and capable. I even have one with a 90 degree adaptor head for tight spaces. A 6mm hex to 1/4 square bit means you can attach a socket tight to the chuck or use extensions

If one doesn't need it professionally or often, the budget German supermarkets are a good place to look. 👍

I do the same with my B&D cordless screwdriver. As you say nuts up to 10mm, allen bolts, torque bolts and of course screws.

You could try Amazon, plenty of choice from £30, just search for “1/4 cordless ratchet”

Its a real shame! Everything is being dragged to the lowest demoninator because the CCP is using our own greed against us. They gradually take over production and then steadily drive the competition to do the same by using either subsidies, that are illegal under Wto rules or just plain copying (they dont recognise copyright rules either) what will happen when they totally dominate all markets? You will not have a choice about what you buy and not be allowed to pass comment.

But hey don't let that put any of you off, we're mostly oldrr guys so its unlikely to affect us that badly, we can just enjoy the savings and let our descendants pick up the consequences.
