Hi all need to visit a friend in Barnstaple in early November for one night, looking for a pub stopover or campsite nearby if anyone has any recommendations I be most obliged. There are a couple of CCC CS sites but come with warnings of twisty very narrow access roads van is a 7 metre aclass

Stayed at the Portsmouth arms on the A377 some while ago good meal flat carpark.. also appledore or Bideford on the council carparks.

Re Fox and Hounds, sadly it’s not rural as described and will be quite noisy as it’s on a main road.
Unless it changed recently it’s not a huge car park and could be difficult for a large van. We used to live a mile up the hill from there and I wouldn’t use it. We have used Bideford car park by the rugby club for the odd night without issue.
Alternatively Riverside caravan site at South Molton is open all year round.

10 miles away but cracking site and facilities.stayed there in April and could not fault it.

You can stay overnight in the lorry park in Barnstable.

Well, there's a thing. Today we took the A361 from the M5, on the imagined basis that that was the simplest most straightforward main road route to where we are now, Stowford Farm Meadows campsite. BUT just a hundred or so yards before the turnoff off the Main A361, the road was closed. All the alternative roads where tiddly steep narrow minor roads! We chose one really steep and narrow road, with no turnaround, which after a mile or so suddenly announced, NO HEAVY VEHICLES! What are you supposed to do, disappear? We had to drive back to Barnstaple and try again. So, What I'm saying, is, this is an Alternative world around here. Take the easiest route. We passed the aptly named Hidden Valley Campsite at least 3 times. Go there!! If they're open 🙄

We have stayed on harbour car park in Appledore, gets busy though £15 for night
