For North Devon, Hidden Valley may be a good option. We have a fantastic Bus service No 21 and 21A that runs between Bideford & Ilfracombe with many stops in between. Hidden Valley would be on that route.

Thanks all for the Dawlish food tips, Anchor Inn looks good.

It is! Large selection of very filling mussels dishes available - Normandy is my favourite.

Do you cycle? There’s part of the Exe Estuary Trail available to you on that bank of the river all the way to the quay at Exeter and running past the Double Locks.

If you visit after the winter period it’s possible to do an interesting circular day trip on predominantly flat cycle paths to Exeter and back with frequent ‘refreshment’ ;) stops along the way. Being relatively local it’s something we do as an extended family (upwards of 40+ including kids) a couple of times a year while staying at Cofton.

FWIW the itinerary usual goes something like this:
Cycle down to Starcross and ferry across to Exmouth. Follow the trail to Lympstone and brunch outside at the The Swan Inn. Carry on with a stop at Topsham at the The Lighter Inn on the Quay (or further on at the aforementioned Double Locks) before hitting the quays at Exeter. It’s just a short jaunt from the centre of the city and cathedral if visiting with plenty of eateries in the area or on the quay itself.

Heading back you cross to the opposite bank of the Exe just beyond the Double Locks at Countess Weir, and head out to where the canal joins the estuary at The Turf lock. Then around the back of Powderham Castle, where you’ll hopefully see the fallow deer up close in the park, before Starcross and the lane back up to Cofton.

Oh, and it’s worth taking a pair a of binos along as there’s always something of interest on the estuary.

Hidden Valley near Ilfracombe, open all year.

A lovely site with very good facilities, dog and child friendly.

Not really close to any centres but there is a bus stop at the site entrance.

Buses go to Ifracombe to the north. Braunton onto Barnstaple and then further field.

There is a Tesco store in Braunton, An Asda in Barnstaple. Asda will deliver to the site.

I stay there a lot.
Shhhhh…don’t tell everyone ot they will all want to to go there :LOL::LOL:

Stowford Meadows, now Stowford Village, got a Seasonal Van on there, even though only live 20mins away...Recommended.

Camping & Caravanning Club site at Tavistock, Devon, is open all year:

It's a massive county. What sort of thing do you like.

We like the dartmoor halfway inn campsite.

Not open til March according to their website

Yep Hidden Valley, probably one of the best sites we’ve stayed on.

Dornafield by Newton Abbot, lovely site close to Torquay & Teignmouth and about 25 mins from Exeter. Absolutely spotless facilities and the pitches in one area have their own Elsan point.

Isn’t that a different site? Not the Dartmoor halfway Inn.
Here's the address and opening dates 01.01.22 - 31.12.22 and same again for 2023 for the C&CC site.

And yes, it is the Camping and Caravanning Club site, as originally mentioned, and NOT the Dartmoor Halfway Inn campsite, which is quite different.
