Recommend me a printer please

Probably Max of £3 a month

Somewhere around 40 a month

Yes, but very rarely & not really important
Mono Laser does sound like the way to go then.

The toner doesn't 'go off' so lasts years. The worst you'll get is a small puff of smoke if you haven't used it for months and dust has gathered. Doesn't affect the print and isn't going to set anything on fire...

It's then a question of features that you want, cost of replacement toner, and buying a known brand product with good reviews.

The Brother DCPL2510 that I've had excellent (second hand) experience of has gone up a touch to about £140 but even under heavy use for a year by my good lady wife it hasn't needed new toner which makes it something like £5/month for the first year and a twin pack of 'compatible' toner is about £25 so probably 40p per month to run after the initial purchase - quite probably less - excluding paper of course but that's probably only another £10/year or so.

Things to look for specifically are if you want / need airprint (so you can print from iPhones or iPads directly) and if you can manage without the 'all in one' scanner/copier feature.

I personally just take photos of docs with my phone on the rare occasions that I need to 'photocopy' anything so have a much cheaper laser printer - but if that's a feature you use regularly then a modest extra in the initial outlay will be worth it.

The new Epsons drink ink like it's going out of fashion.
Expensive to run. Wish I hadn't bought it.
May be your settings Craig, I have an ecotank and I rarely have to top it up though I do print a lot.
Also if you have leave a few weeks between print jobs it will use ink during its test faze, so I find using it regularly works

For that, although not my personal choice, the HP instant ink scheme (50 page/mth subscription) might be the way to go.

I think they will replace if cartridges dry out through lack of use...

Very low start price for All-in-One printer/scanner in sale (from £40) and then pay-as-you-go

---------------------------

As others have said, you'd need to spend a bit more upfront (£120+) for a mono laser printer (& scanner) but toner cartridges can last for years, so no monthly costs and no risk of clogging or wasting cartridges which dry up...
And, of course, no option for any colour prints...

For ink refills I have used Stinky Ink compatibles for over 5 years with no problems. They give a 12 month guarantee and offer friendly advice over the phone. See their prices etc at https://www.stinkyinkshop.co.uk/

I went with an HP colour laser as Ingot fed up with inkjet cartridges drying up, only thing to look out for is “cheap” lasers take cartridges that only last 3-400 pages, more normally priced ones will do 2,000 sheets (ish). Pretty much everything is wifi / AirPrint nowadays

Reading with interest, always had HP, but all have failed in one aspect, last one managed to stop copying and although it appeared to scan, wouldn't print out the image, even with hard wiring it wouldn't talk to my laptop.
Got really good results even when i printed photos on normal paper.
My printing goes in fits and starts use it a lot for a week or so, then may not use it for a month, not sure where to go, John has an HP but it lacls a fature I use, but I only remember what it is when I want to use it.

HP colour laser
Relatively expensive start-up costs so I'd suggest this is not really appropriate for OP's purposes?

PS. I suggest you check out the Epson Ecotanks (or similar) printers/all-in-ones when your colour laser packs in. Although a bit slower to print, perhaps, I've found them to give better quality colour output than laser, with cheaper outlay & without the cost/issues of 'traditional" cartridge inkjets (again, not relevant to OP's situation).

Bought an Epson Envoy 5540 printer/scanner/copier thing at start of Covid lockdown, so nearly 5 years now. Also signed up to the Instant Ink service that is 10 free pages per month, monitors ink level and supplies cartridges c/w recycle service when required. Initially we were both WFH usage was moderate and about £2/month, mostly by MrsP printing work stuff whilst a new IT system was implemented by her employer where that oft promised paperless office over the last 30 odd years gradually became reality.

Very seldom print these days as most stuff can be scanned by mobile phone at sufficient quality even for officious stuff like identity and death certificates.

Use with Mac / PC / iPhones / iPads with no problems.

Can't recall last time we paid for use, must be nearly 3 years ago. As use is so low ensure print so no fees.

We bought a HP Envy 6032 (after years of Canon printers). Seems fine for home use (print, scan, copy) and we got 6 months HP ink included. Seems a good system, they monitor use and send out ink cartridges as needed before ink runs out.
Had an HP envy, but developed a cartridge fault. Was easier and cheaper to buy another HP printer, got a HP deskjet 4120e. Pile of sh**e, going to the tip as soon as the free ink period finishes

This appeared on my feed tonight.

A combined laser printer and scanner with a document feeder and duplex printing.

After years of expensive inkjet failures - I bought a cheap Dell 1320 colour laser back in 2010.
It's so old it doesn't have wifi. It's parsimonious with toner and third party cartridges work perfectly [plus still available - currently about £20 for a full set of 4].
I'll definitely get another laser when this one finally gives up the ghost.

I had similar for many years (HP and Dell) and convinced myself colour lasers were the bee's-knees despite being bulky, noisy, smelly and lacking any scan/copy features (I also kept an inkjet for all those capabilities, and other useful things like printing directly onto CDs - ah those were the days).

However, certainly doesn't meet OP's requirements!

I have since switched to an Ecotank model with absolutely no regrets (binning the other 4 printers I was keeping 'just in case'...)
