rb panel van conversion begins !

We are booked in at Regal Furnishings for all the upholstery doing May 19th . Hopefully the water tank will have arrived by then. So we could be finished and ready to explore. We will try and make a trip to regal and let them measure up ready. To see if they can let us have a couple of foam seats to sleep on when we go to Whitby goth. If not we will have to use blow up beds !

It's looking really good. Keep up the great work.

first real look at this thread, and cant say much, absolutely speechless ... just brilliant work...just a tad jealous ..
will keep watching..

Don't worry you won't be the only one on temp beds :DI am hoping to pick my relay up today or tomorrow-just waiting for the call ;)then get some insulation in and I have a rock and roll bed (going into the vito )I can throw into it.
If you need a couple of 6ft ish x 2 ft ish new foams to borrow give me a call (y)I have some in pool room that will eventually end up in mine :D

I have been following this thread with total fascination and have come to the conclusion that Ralph is a lying rogue.

It is totally obvious that he is a professional cabinetmaker and part-time professional electrician, part-time professional plumber with a touch of vehicle mechanic, designer and genius thrown in.

I am also absolutely convinced that he's not human. He is from the planet Zog and has come here to make us all feel one whole lot inferior.

But seriously, you should be doing this whole conversion thing professionally.

Thank you for making me sick with envy. So looking forward to seeing the final pics in due course.

:LOL::LOL:...... If i am honest i have surprised myself on this project.

I never intended to do the joinery side of things myself. After the kitchen maker let me down i had no option but to have a go
My trade is Bricklaying which involves alot of setting out, i think these setting out skills and being practically minded have certainly helped.

I am sure Terry will say the same, its all about cutting materials square, straight and keep walls parallel.
One thing i struggle with is not being able to use a spirit level, when i started the van i naturally had a level on the job.
The thing is, you cant level up anything in there as the base isn't level to start with (n)

Anyway, i have to say i am loving every day on the conversion and cant wait to get out in him. I think i am past the half way mark now (y)

I would love to reply to all your posts individually but obviously don't have the time at the minute.

Thank you all for taking interest in this project, and keep up the amusing reply's (y)
Anyone who has built a Campervan will know how you need to be on top of things and it can take over a bit.

So its always nice to come on Fun and have a laugh at the reply's from you guys :LOL:

Cheers for now, just enjoying a beer before bed.
Hopefully I'll get some more pictures on over the weekend.

You are right about no level Ralph everything has to come off the only flat thing the floor. As you have found out every bit has to be scribed to the walls and roof etc It's a steep learning curve and you are coping brilliant with it take a bit pat on the back (y)
BTW my Relay came tonight

watch out Terry he is after your work. you both do really great work.

No chance Terry .
He's already having to wear a belt to keep his work trousers up !
They were too tight for him when started doing the build :Eeek: he's lost a stone and a half nearly!
He's even dreaming of working on Pug in his sleep .
Although he's enjoying doing it. I know he will be glad when it's he's finished. We are both so excited about getting out and about in Pug, we can't wait.

Perhaps I'm being too simplistic, but wouldn't it make life a bit easier if you actually levelled the van first so that you had a perfectly level floor, then a spirit level COULD be used ... just a thought!

What happens when you get in and out of the van ? EASY to use the floor as a flat surface and 3,4,5, everything off that -once you get one bit squared both ways you can use that for accurate measuring (y)-If all else fails so long as it looks right it is :D

I suppose it depends how much of an 'elephant' you are ... some of us aren't quite so heavy as others!

I actually converted an ex-ambulance so totally understand the problem - getting the first 'square' sections is key and worth spending the time to get it right. This was the first time I'd ever done anything like this so it wasn't as 'sophisticated' as both your offerings, but we loved it!
