Hello, we will be attending a couple of festivals next year and the information states that whilst water is available it is to fill containers only, and you cannot drive up to them.

Couple of questions.

  • What containers do people normally use for ease of transport / storage/ volume etc?
  • Our van has a Whale water connection which we have only ever used when getting water from a tap. Can this just be removed by hand?

I use a 20 litre fresh water container, I can hoist up to the lounge window that directly above the main water tank inlet,
With pipe connected it easily siphon into the tank, but also have a small collapsible water can for small amounts if needed,

A 20ltr water Jerry can
And a real help is a caravan water tank filling hose. The clear hose with the rubber boot on the end. Makes filling, especially if it is a push tap, much easier.

I bought ont of these, because they are black nasties don’t readily grow in them and the breather cap stops glugging, I purchase a spare cap and fitted a spout to the cap off a new plastic petrol can to save using a funnel, it works great and very simple.

We’ve used these for over a year now. Fold flat and light.

We use a watering can. Arrive full and then top up if necessary using can. Ours is a folding one now so takes up little room. Our previous van had a whale connector but had another opening where you could use a container.

I fill up tank before leaving home, it normally lasts, but cuts down on the need for top ups with a collapsible watering can.

It depends on what you can carry back and forth. I used to use a 10 litre container but now a 7 litre collapsible my limit.
A festivals and rallies, I arrive full and collect fresh water daily in a 5 litre container kept inside and used for drinking, cooking etc. Never had the need to fill the tank once there.

We use a collapsible bucket (that folds flat for easy storage) then empty it using the outdoor pump attachment. Doddle.

20 litre water carrier from camp shop. We use a funnel to put it into tank if away from longer than our 100l duration.

One warning with festivals (non motorhome ones) is that there can be a queue for water, so using watering cans works well, but they are usually only 10l, and as such you end up queuing twice as often. We have been known to take our 20l carrier and a collapsable 10l one we have at same time so we only need to queue 3 times to near fill the tanks.

Sounds mad, but the above tip may save you an hour of queuing. Of course you could carry 3 watering cans but it's likely you will want the space (the small collapsable 10l watering cans are okay). We usually use the 20l water carrier to drink from too (it's always our fresh supply) which also extends the lifespan until we need to refill. We can usually last (on 100l + 20l carrier for around a 4 day festival until we need to do the shuffle to refill) between 2 of us + 1 dog, so any festival over 5 days we are refilling.

Ref; the whale water connection as others have said just find the top of tank access hatch and just pour in more water, it's far quicker than relying on a pump so in your case, I would also use a water carrier or watering can.

(I mean the whale water connection is designed to be used with an aquaroll, but I've not really seen anyone using one outside of CAMC events. It's rare people use them unless they already own one, and have a garage alrge enough to store one. We have neither so use the standard camp water jugs as above.

We have never had to queue for water at a warners show to date, it's only the big music fetivals we've seen horrendous queues of people with water carriers to fill.

I have a hose lock connection to fill from a hose/tap I also have a short hose to go into a container turn off one valve and pump draws from container instead of onboard tank...why don't motorhome converters/makers do this

I use my red fire bucket and a collapsible water carrier. When at festivals we pull up at water point push in water filter (as above) and we fill up. Every morning I get up and put in another 5l, we have never needed to pull up to water point during festival stay. It's a more energetic way of filling up but I can't stand having to drain out hose etc.

Watering cans, I take cushion off inside and fill through the access there as can't lift them high enough outside.
We carry 2x5L water bottles which we use for drinking water they are fine too for carting water back and forth.

I have 2 x 10 litre plastic jerry cans and a 3D printed funnel purchased from a funster on here who makes them.
My fill point is the usual cap type on the side of the van and with the funnel filling is simple.
