PVCs with transverse bed without side windows - is this a problem?

Our Rapido V68 has longitudinal beds and side windows above the bed, which are generally fine for ventilation. There is a rooflight above the bed also, but no windows in the rear doors.

However, when on a trip in southern Spain and the daytime temperatures touching 40c, we just left the sliding side door wide open overnight, but with the fly screen drawn across. With the back windows and rooflight open as well, there was a lovely flow of cool air through, but still mosquito proof.

Yes, a slight potential security risk, but we were on a quiet campsite, tucked up in a corner and happy to take the risk. :giggle:
sounds rather nice, we did similar with our T5 although if you have a tail gate rather than barn doors you can get a small bar that acts as a security latch so the air flowed through nicely.

We have huge side windows either side of the island bed in our c class but rarely open then at night, mainly for security reasons. But if we open the large roof light then the cool air drops in overnight and we always sleep well in the MH 😊👍

We have a Globecar Scout 540 with two rear windows. We find one window locked open with lounge skylight open makes a great difference to the a comfortable night sleep. Bedroom space definitely needs at least one opening window.

No side windows but with the roof open and a rear open it’s fine 👍

On hot nights in my Murvi, I just leave the kitchen extractor fan turned to 'slow' in (or out if need be)?

Our bike rack is on hinges so we can open the rear doors at any time. When in France and its hot we always sleep with the doors open. (We have a mosquito net of course)

We have flush tinted auto windows which don’t open but we also have a Maxxfan over the bed which gives us the views, no one can see in and we get all the fresh air we want. Our bed is also our lounge so works for us.

Our bed set up, but it’s our storage underneath so no end lounge area.

We love to look out through ours when we’re in bed. Also makes in nice n light during the day. Have to remember to close the nearest the sliding door though.

It’s not a problem we orderd ours without side windows 1) if it has blinds your foot/head/pillow will probably make a mess of them 2) sliding doors and opening windows don’t mix. We have a roof light and two rear windows and all is good 👍
Exactly the reason we ordered our van without side windows, the blinds would be destroyed in no time, also with a bit of extra security and less windows to leak, one of the back windows leaks badly, this has been from new, must get it looked at under warranty.

That looks like an Elddis CV , slide out couches made up as transverse bed?? We have a CV20 slide on couches partially and use as 2 longitudinal singles with space between to get up for the night time toilet visit if needed…..depends how good the ale has been 😲
Good thing about the CV the beds that way are below the windows so don’t cause issue with the blinds .

Ours was converted by some guys in Walsall (sadly given up) and we wanted a transverse bed with storage underneath and to be able to convert into a rear lounge.

Benimar Benivan 122 has side & rear door opening windows. Sofas can be 2 longitudinal singles or transverse/long double beds. Roof vent too.

Rapido V55 has a transverse bed. Opening skylight above. Windows in rear doors also open. Great shower design in the van. Have a look.

Try it without windows and see 👍 If need be it's easy to retro fit a window or two. Only thing I would be careful of is make sure you got sliding windows on the sliding door side😉

sorry to hear about the leak hope it gets fixed soon

No, fixed bed…..we always take out the bed mattresses when not in use. Our van is 6m and as got the transverse bed, the 6.3m model as the longitudinal beds.

Our Dreamer D55+ is the same - no side windows, but I installed a MaxxFan in the roof light above the bed, and we stay cool at night even in the south of France.
Another vote here for addition of a Maxxfan! Brilliant piece of kit and plenty of ventilation in or out - we do have side opening windows, but rarely use them, much preferring the Maxxfan.

Adria Twin , had one 2 years ago , lovely van .
We looked at the Adria range, but they were at least £10k+ more expensive than ours.

Our ‘budget’ van ticks almost everything for me……my wife says it perfect. Can’t argue with my wife’s opinion can I? ;)

Thanks everyone. I think we have decided to buy another coachbuilt now but will investigate the Maxxfan..

Hi

No side windows are a positive for us.

I am 1.92 tall so I tend to sleep diagonally, luckily my wife is short 😂

We wanted the side windows when we were looking, but quickly realised I would probably destroy the blinds and kick the window out if we had them …..

We have a skylight and opening rear door Windows which so far are fine

Daniel.
