PVC Storage

There’s no way I’d want to carry around 6-8 weeks worth of dirty laundry, that’s just yucky.
Not if you have a supa-dupa laundry shoot like what I made!

I'd run out of clothes!

One of the big reasons we are changing the current van is the storage is rubbish. Well, that's not quite true, the access to the storage is rubbish. There is actually plenty of room for everything we need to carry under the rear bench, but the doors to outside are too small to put anything in through, the partitions make it impossible and there is no access from inside. Our chairs, table, pop up tent live in the shower, and I regularly curse trying to find other stuff in the outside lockers. And the fact that the sensible cupboard right next to the door (which would be just perfect for shoes) is chock full of heating gubbins, that could easily have gone under the bloody bench! Drives me nuts

One of the earlier Vantage models used to have hooks on the rear doors for folding chairs. I thought that was a brilliant idea. Get you chairs out for a sit down without having to empty the boot, but get to everything else without having to move the chairs if need be. Brilliant. I'm still toying with converting a van to spec for us, which would incorporate all these brilliant ideas. I'd have a space under the floor accessible from the sliding door for big flat things like tables and the pop up tent, too.

Inspired by a caravan opposite - how about an off the wall suggestion if you're limited by layout eg rear lounge... get one of these;

It could rest on the settee bases whilst travelling and simply moved outside when pitched.

There's no reason you can't have access via the inside, or have the heating gubbins moved if the van works for you otherwise, if you can't do it yourself I'm sure someone would do it for you.

This is why we bought this one, 6.48 metres long with incredible storage, huge garage, full width heated ski locker even, Alde.

That’s exactly what I thought. How hard can it be? (They’re going to write that on my gravestone. Right under 'where’s the scissors?'). Bloody hard, according to three different people I took the MH to. All I wanted was a drop in table in the cab, like all the PVCs have, and someone to cut some access hatches in the bench, like every other van, ever. I didn’t even try for moving the heater. I did know it wasn't our forever van, but I got so patronised and told repeatedly how I didn’t really want it, I lost heart. And the them bike rack caused me so much grief I flounced off to the NEC and bought one with a garage (also, we moved and I can’t get the wheely bins out without moving the camper atm. Needless to say, this is proving somewhat inconvenient)

To maximise storage in a PVC, I think having a fixed bed is required . Otherwise, as well as all the stuff already mentioned, you need to find even more room for bedding, possibly even mattress toppers.

Like I said earlier, we have no trouble travelling for three to four months in our Warwick Duo, and store stuff under the benches. I think if we needed more storage, the idea mentioned by someone in a previous post about getting a tow ball bike rack and putting a box on the door mounted rack is a great idea! I will remember in case our needs change in the future. We thought we would need to be in & out of the rear doors all the time, but we have an underslung gas tank, and the hook up cable and levellers are easily accessed from inside with the hydraulic lifters on the bench seat. Both seats can also be used as single beds if required, so no need to make beds up if you don’t want to.
