Carado CV540 Pro
Hi guys we have a Carado cv540 pro on order, our 1st van of any kind as we are totally new to this scene.

As it most PVC models you need to open the barn doors to access the gas bottle locker when you have a fixed rear bed. I can only assume on cold days the van will fill with cold air because of this. We plan to travel to Italy next winter so just wondering what others do, thermal curtains, crash sensor to avoid turning off gas at bottle when driving etc?

Wonder why there is no access to gas bottle valve from under the mattress via a lift up panel.

I sympathise with the original poster. We have gaslow refillable cylinder (external fill point before anyone queries it!) and need to open barn doors to turn cylinders off and on. We were advised to turn off before moving the van, and we do, and therefore turn on when arrive somewhere. It is a nuisance if pouring with rain for example. It is a problem waiting for us to resolve. For a completely untechnical person as myself, how would I know if there was a crash guard fitted? I don’t expect there is. We just had the system fitted when we bought the van, from new.
On a minor point, our previous van, Autosleeper, had an underslung tank. Only isolation switch was under the van which neither of us could have reached. we didn’t take it abroad but were told that as long as the red internal valves were off and we could prove no gas coming through eg the hob burners, we would be ok.

We have 2xAlugas and accessing our gas locker is a bit of a faff. Two locks on the garage door then two more on the gas locker door in the garage. Last time we were told at the tunnel that turning off all the red isolation valves would suffice. I still turned off at the bottles.

Appreciate all the answers. As I already have a 10 kg Safefill bottle ready for the van I feel getting the newer Truma mono CP might be the way forward.

I am aware I should turn off the gas in certain situations but when moving for one site to another or if you stop just to use the hob for lunch or make a coffee etc would be a pain to have to turn on/off the gas just for that reason. We may well invest in a thermal curtain for the Ducato van anyway as unsure how much cold gets in as unlikely barn doors are really well insulated but that remains to be seen.

I don't think the Safefill has an Anti-Rupture valve so you will need an Anti-Rupture hose as well.

Hell of a thread this one, Houthis blowing ships up in the Red Sea and now a funster about to do the same to a ferry, how did we get from letting cold air in the back of the van to blowing ships up?

Our previous and much missed pvc had this issue, we did eventually have an underfloor lpg tank fitted, but we also used a normal bedsheet strung across the back doors in winter to stop the draughts from them caused by poor insulation and door seals. It worked very well, and would stop the total loss of warm air you describe when you open the doors.

Having driven many vans of differing types and ages I love my “pod” on the Neo. No back doors and a boot. No draughts or rattles 👍

I was out in the car just now, saying to her indoors, if only the van were this quiet, without all those rattles and squeeks. The pvc wasn't too bad, a 2016 Tribute, but this plastic thing we've got now. Let's say it's quiet when we stop. Otherwise its brilliant. Sorry, I don't know offhand what a Neo is, I'll have to do a Google on it.

Could these be what I need now Lenny?

So what happens at, say, Eurotunnel when you are asked to turn off your gas? Are they happy to accept a switch?
I only ask because I've been considering an underslung tank.
I do what I’ve always done Terry, get out and show them the tap on the Hobby in a cupboard and the switch on the Neo next to the side door. Never had a comment.

We have to do the same to access gas bottles, but it only takes 30 seconds to open the doors and turn the gas on/off. Doesn’t really affect the temperature inside as it’s only a bit of cooler air, it soon warms back up. Rain is worse, but again the doors aren’t open for long enough to worry. Wouldn’t have a thermal partition as it would block the rear windows. No draughts from doors.

No that one doesn't have the anti-rupture valve, probably have to buy an expensive Truma one.
