Okay, here's what happened. I have attempted to drive off with the electric hook up still attached.....the connecting wire came away and dislodged the connection to the vehicle. I know 'school boy' error. Thing is I am currently at Cherry Hinton campsite, it's the weekend and can't find anyone professional to come and help would anyone know where I can get help between here and Bedfordshire/Milton Keynes please. Thanks

IreneAnne. Sorry to read of your woes. :(
Can you put up a photo of the damaged equipment, to give us an idea of the extent of damage? It may just need reconnecting and resealing.

Good luck getting sorted. (y)

Jock. :)

Hi Jock
That's the thing, nothing to see, all looks okay, just the piece that goes into the vehicle for the hook up has been dislodged. I will add photo. Neither of us have strength to push it back in via the tabs and thread, it doesn't appear any wires loose/broken off. We have an orange flashing light in the electrical box, loads of wires!!! So frustrating not understanding why our solar panel not giving us power?
Ah well, hopefully sorted tomorrow.
Thanks for your input.

You need to take the plug out and undo it to check the connections properly before plugging it in again.

Your solar panel will give enough back into your battery to run the lights and to run the USB sockets to power phones. However the fridge will need to be run on gas as I assume 3 way. It will not run on 240 mains as not plugged in, and it will only run on 12v when engine running.

If no electrics working, no lights, no spark for the hob etc, then maybe something needs fixing in electrickery box, else your 12v system should be working.

Oh dear! Rang this number Sunday morning 11am, got a google screening call message then told the number not available? Thanks for the info though. Still searching for help till we leave cherry hinton Monday morning for a location in Bedfordshire somewhere, it's a surprise and I 'm not allowed this information. Happy days 😀
I know a lovely guy called Mark who used to do mobile repairs but AFAIK now only does work for a local caravan dealer. He is based at Grafham so not too far away - he might be able to help if you are stuck. I will PM you his mobile number. If you ring say Marian the fulltimer with the Border Collie gave you his number.

AFAIK = as far as I know.
PM = private message, or what is now known as a ‘conversation’. You should have an alert in your Fun mailbox.

Is your control panel still set as it needs to be for 12v operation also is there a switch/button on the PSU that needs turning off to stop it thinking it still has a 240v supply ?

Update

very early Monday morning 6.30am we made the decision to drive all the way back to the dealer because we didn't want to compromise our warranty if someone else made a repair that wasn't up to standard.

The dealer subsequently found the problem being a disconnected earth wire to the EHU vehicle socket which they repaired in under an hour and no charge.

We were happy. I will endeavour to check the vehicle is roadworthy and fit to drive away from whichever site we are leaving. Boy, this was certainly a lesson learnt.

Thank you so much to everyone who offered advice, tips and information, all have been very gratefully received, you have been very kind.

Looking for something in my files I found this from way back. Pretty much what has been posted by others earlier, depending on circumstances there may be checks to add, bikes, dogs, stuff chucked under van etc. I've long since stopped the tick boxing, all in the head now.

Oh well the attachment didn't work, an old .doc file so c&p it is.

On Arrival
Fill water tank at service point
Level van if necessary
Lower corner steadies if necessary
Connect mains cable to electric (van first) cable fully unwound
Turn on gas, open external vent if necessary
Switch Fridge to mains (or gas)
Switch on display panel
Switch on water heater ensuring it is full
Setting Off
Ensure awning is in and secure
Raise the corner steadies
Turn off gas at cylinder
Disconnect the mains cable (post first)
Check loads are safely secured
Switch fridge to 12volt and ensure door is secure
Check the windows and roof lights are closed
Check satellite dish is down
Check internal doors and cupboards are closed
Check the habitation door is locked
Ensure step is in
Ensure dog is secure
Pull off and check site for forgotten items
Empty the grey tanks and the toilet at service point
Ensure wife is onboard!

I clicked on your link and was asked if I wanted to foster an elephant?

I am thinking probably not :giggle: .

I see your post now contains the checklist, now that I may adopt.

Geoff
Link didn't work, although I may have gained a few more elephant lovers! :giggle:

I wrote a checklist on a small white board and fixed it above the hab door… easy to remember and check ✔️

Sorry IreneAnne Cherry Hinton is too far for me to help you.
I see its a CMC site, why not ask in the office is they have a spare EHU lead they can lend you, then get someone that Knows electrics to repair your damaged one when you get home.
I see you mentioned it was a "schoolboy error", should that not have been listed as a "Schoolgirl Error"?;):giggle:
Tip from a smart arse, Always walk arround the entire van, before pulling off, check all locker doors are locked, EHU cable, plus water hose stored away, and all roof lights are closed, plus the one I sometimes forget, make sure all sliding drawers are locked before the 1st roundabout!
Good Luck.
LES
In this day and age of crazy “wokeness” maybe it should be “a school aged learner error” or just a “learning person error”………..😂😂😂😂😂

When we did the same (mitigating circumstances apply) we damaged the bollard :(

We did own up to what we had done and paid for the repair.

It's not something we want to do again (so as someone suggested on here) in future we will tie the bag that holds the EHU onto the steering wheel as a reminder.

 Now, if I was a cynic I'd wonder if you driving away with the EHU still plugged in really was an 'accident'.
In fairness IreneAnne, our first trip out in the Hymer I’m driving away and I see this woman running along side the Hymer and waving, I stop and she aye you didn’t unplug your lead, 😳😟🤬
