Problems finding 6kg propane bottle

I dont normally have a problem with changing my 6kg bottle at our local Calor shop but today they said they were struggling to get any size of bottles. The local depot are limiting stock to there shops due to the shortages. This means the small shops are struggling to survive.
Once the static caravan parks open here at Easter there will be a mad rush for bottles.
It would be a shame to see our small shop go under. They have been a family business for a long time serving the local comunity.

Hopefully are bottles won’t be impacted as the use the giant ones for the statics.

I’m going to look into flow gas, saying that we haven’t had that bad a issue filling up are 6kg.

Thankfully my uncle who historically travelled Europe in his moho for a few months at a time lent us a full 6kg. We bought are moho just as things went nuts and got a bottle in the starter pack supplies. A few months later we couldn’t get an extra bottle anywhere.

We currently have two heavyweights 6kg and a 6kg lightweight. The lightweight one we happened to know a calor dealer who let us have it at cost of a refill. Hoping to manage a refill when the time comes.

Hopefully now the worlds opening up again the domestic holidays slowing down will mean less issues.

When I called at the shop today there truck was nearly empty. As you said James the ones for the statics shouldn’t be a problem but at this time of year it’s the smaller bottle sales they rely on.

a trip to the tip yesterday to get rid of more accumulated rubbish and there were 4 x 6 kg bottles there .
he said £15. Each.


the above supplier link they have had exchange refills all the time not been a shortage of them.
it’s the new contracts that they do not have.

If your not already sorted I'm in Weston Super Mare and have 2 propane bottles 0ne is a 6kg and one a 5kg but the 5 is slightly taller than the 6 so probably the same. You can have them both for a fiver and also a 3.9kg if its any use.

We had this problem as when we bought our van in July last year there were no gas bottles with it and couldn't get any anywhere. We eventually had a gas it refillable system fitted.

I've stuck an empty one on my garden wall today to see if the scrappy takes it, otherwise it's going into the recycling bin

You should never put a cylinder in the recycling, they’re highly dangerous when empty.

Sorry about the ribs and suppose even picking up an empty 6 kg bottle would be a painful exercise at the mo
Best of luck in your search. If you have a local " Freecycle" forum you could always ask for one on there.,it's surprising what folks do give away to clear out garages etc

I had the same issue, but I wanted a second 11KG. No local retailer would let me have one.
They also all ran out of filled 11KG so I was stuck.

Jim sent me to a local Flogas distribution centre which I didn't realise dealt with the public.
They told me they could swap my 11KG out but couldn't give a new one (as a 2nd).

The did however allow me to get a new 6KG.

I have just looked on the flogas website to see where there are distribution centres in somerset and they don't list them it seems?
You may have better luck with local knowledge?
