Problems driving in France?

I know this will be contentious, but the onus is on the driver to keep to ( or just below) the speed limit.
The police cannot prosecute you for speeding unless the speed limit for that road is signed. ( lit residential roads subject to 30mph limit with no signage excepted) They will only enforce a posted limit ( lit residential roads subject to 30mph limit with no signage excepted. They cannot do otherwise, whatever anybody tells you.
The Highway Code is available for every driver to study, they even have their own versions in foreign countries, it is your responsibility to read it and abide by it.
Sometimes you have to take responsibility for yourself without blaming others for the predicament you find yourself in.
We would expect nothing less than for you to be contentious Allanm

Nice bit of sensationalism by the Forgers Gazette. Of course the British get more fines from France than anywhere else. Not only is France the biggest holiday destination in the world, but you have to drive through it to get anywhere else. Simple logic says that's where the most fines would come from.Don't let that get in the way of a good story though eh

I rarely see anyone from France sticking to the speed limit in the UK, safe in the knowledge that this is not a reciprocal system.

As far as I know it is reciprocal . Unless you know lots of French people who can tell you if they have been fined or not and can confirm otherwise

We have just arrived on a free stellplatz on Germany, Saarlouis I think it is. I can recommend the aire at Arlon in the south of Belgium - free water and electric! No toilet emptying point or drive over drain though. Town has lots of shops to browse.

We have found driving easy in Europe - just take your time and have a half decent satnav unlike our nozatec!

The Express is very knowledgable in these matters
Lol, I read a whole lengthy article on Greece (not sure why Greece) to get to the proposition we may need an IDP after a no deal Brexit. Could have summed it up in a few lines !

Living in France for 15 years have seen many nationalities driving too fast etc but many are not caught as no controls in the area and am sure that happens in the U.K. also . On way to airport at Bergerac yesterday with grandchildren a British registered car overtook the 3 cars behind us and us well over the speed limit and on a continuous white line. No penalty as no radar or gendarme around but from the comments on here he would have been penalised just because he had a U.K. number plate .

Sure I read this recently in the Daily express or similar 'The French gendarmerie now attach a GPS tracker/speed sensor to every Brit car arriving at Calais which will automatically send a penalty notice for every infraction' ;);)

Something i wasn't aware of until a French motorhomer friend of mine told me about it a few years ago, is negotiating roundabouts in France.
Because we're over 3500kg (he is also) we have to drive the same as hgvs. So, if say turning left on a roundabout 3rd exit or going straight over, 2nd exit, you have to start in the right hand lane and stay in it whilst indicating left until you reach your exit and indicate right to leave the roundabout. You're not allowed to use other lanes on a roundabout.

Well in the dystopian future of the EU's Galileo GPS tracking system that will be exactly the case! They have not spent billions on it for the average Joe.
