Looking for our first MH and accepted wisdom seems to be start with a barely used premium brand

But which brands are these?

Hymer, Burstner, Knaus have cropped up - but I assume there are others

Blimey I looked up the N&B brand and whilst I agree they look lovely - the price is eye watering. I’m afraid to get my modest chausson scratched - id need medication if I scratched one of those . Still would like to drive one around and see if it rattles

I wouldn't class any of those as premium brands and I'm a Hymer owner, they are all good for mid range vans.

Look at N&B, Carthago, Frankie.
N+B are owned by the Hymer group of course but the the build time is much longer and therefore reflected in the price. Morelo is a class above again-British though! Happy with our Hymer for what we use it for.

Top German PVC brands:

1. Westfalia
2. Hymercar
3. Globecar/Possl
4. Malibu (sub-brand of Carthago)
5. Concorde
6. La Strada

Fun Globecar posse feel free to dispute my 3rd place ranking

If you think about buying one 6 years old for under £30,000 would you think that expensive? No nor did I.

This is how the charge of the light brigade occurred but you have been corrected below, another piece of education is that the Hymer group is owned by Thor Industries (Yankee) so fundamentally all you Hymer and N+B owners have Damon Daybreaks! (you have to have had an RV to get that) ;) :reel:

Not my N&B Michael - it was built in 2003.

Anyway 'Owned by; and 'Built by' are different things.

Ok I will dispute the ranking
Based on only ever been in one of the others and having no real experience of them.
If someone would like to donate a new Westfalia James Cook I would haply let it stay at the top of the list. Cant ever envisage having the funds to have one or if I did spending it on a van.
I think the Concorde PVC comes from Globecar as well?
Its all down to personal taste

Frankia is part of the French Pilote group.
Broken Link Removed

That’s as may be, but as eddievanbitz acknowledges:
Hymer is American 👍🏻

and the point eloquently highlighted by nicholsong gets to the nub of it:

From Frankia’s own website:

I can't agree that you're right because then we'd both be wrong. :ROFLMAO: Seriously though, the point is debatable as they are owned by a French company but built in Germany.

It is debatable; do you want to carry on? 🤣

1, Assuming there is a typo in there Geoff. Hymer took over N&B in 1996

2, Think of the brand in NE UK taken over by Hymer

Yes, the one that a lot on here like to slag off and one Funster who needs therapy to get over it.

And just to confuse the issue more, I believe Possl/Globecar are all made in a Dethleffs factory!

Hymer is American 👍🏻
The Parent company is American, Hymer HQ is still Germany as is the manufacturing...... it may be me being a bit Picky ;). Compare that to say Dyson which a Malaysian Brand as its headquarters is now Singapore and manufacturing in Malaysia, with a few jobs left in the UK.

Who knows? Thor are the worlds largest motorhome manufacturer, and I would imagine that there will be a lot of close co-operation, swapping knowledge and manufacturing expertise

Ultimately it doesn't really matter what sticker is on a motorhome, it is a converted delivery van, using a choice of two suppliers Thetford or Dometic so none could be called "bespoke"
