Powerbank

We have one from the dreaded Ebay that has a solar charger on it and 2 usb ports for simultaneous charging and was about 15 quid. It has a brand name of x-Dragon (chinese rip off presumably)
It has 300,000 mAh s which sounds like a lot and comes with a compass that i am never likely to use.
Its smaller than my phone and recharges on the beach (It also has a torch function i wont ever use)
Had it a couple of years and still works

Just bought a jump starter and that will charge phones etc as well.

Cant see the point of a battery pack for the tv when a leisure battery does the job.

A 300Ah portable battery; there’s a thing!

I‘ll have a few of those in my van if you don’t mind. ?

Ian

We do too but find that our gels are a bit heavy for when we have been remiss in not charging one of our portable devices prior to heading out. ? In these circumstances the power bank comes to the rescue.

Ian
I would agree with that. But from the OP's posts that is not how he was going to use them.

Not a chance it has that capacity. :) Some of the Anker ones claim to be 20000mAh (20Ah). They are quite bulky but not excessively so.

It may or may not have that capacity however thats what it says on the bank itself. I would presume even the Chinese have to prove something to put that on there. That is a firestick remote to check the size out

I've got something very similar which I was given. About the same size but it claims only 10000 mAh although having used it a couple of times I doubt is has even that. :) But I'm sure yours is fine for recharging a phone. :)

If i remember correctly what it said when i bought it, it would charge 5 phones from flat to full battery. Having used it for a couple of years it does that and possibly a bit more. I have no idea if that equates to 300,000 oojimeflips

Just looked it up and there is a footnote in red (Only £11.50 now)

Note:
300000 mah is a theoretical capacity of the company. You can charge 2 to 5 times (depending on the conversion rate of your phone) at the same time. We guarantee 2-3 times the load capacity.
Due to the size of the solar panel, the site is designed for emergencies and is not a main source of charge. In general, we recommend charging the device by plugging it in to reduce the charging time.

Item number 192975077542 on Ebay.

They have some 900,000 (theoretical) banks as well now.

All i know is that it charges my phone and i can recharge the bank itself on the beach

We have two 26800mAh/99 power banks which have 2 usb outlets and 1 each of micro usb & usb C intakes. They were around £20 each from amazon... about the size of a Galaxy phone but thicker and heavier.

My 36v 15Ah ebike battery is over a foot long and heavy. 36v x 15Ah = 540Watt/hrs.
Could also be expressed as 36v x 15,000mAh = 540,000mWatt/hrs.
No way a small handheld device has that capacity, suggest you delete the last two zeros.

I stand nervously waiting for a brighter spark to correct me.

They're small because they're 5V and designed to charge tablets & phones on the go... in a rucksack for example. There are loads of them on Amazon, just type 26800 powerbank into their search engine.

Anker powebank for me too. Have a look at the Mymemory website (y)

Coincidently, I’ve just recieved a Powerbank from MyMemory after ordering it over 6 weeks ago, I started chasing up delivery after a couple of weeks and just got told to wait a bit longer etc, three chase ups later it arrived.
Not sure if they are simply drop shipping from China I did suggest this to them and they didn’t deny it.

I have used them many times for Three 12g Sims which arrive within 4/7 days ,therefore,I was surprised and disappointed in their service on this product.

I have just ordered another two Sims but will not order any other product after this experience.

I have this:- Amazon product ASIN B07QC1TD3P Not exactly small but it does a double duty. So far it has Started my Punto (toad), and a neighbours Jaguar XK. allegedly it should start the Motorhome?. Has USB outlets for charging more or less anything 5V.

Looking for a powerbank to charge phones via usb, camera batteries (got usb chargers), laptop and hopefully run 12v tv (for wife). Do any funsters use a powerbank and in my ignorance wondered if there are any that i could recharge from 12v charger when driving?

Any recommendations please
As far as I’m aware, typical powerbanks provide 5V output for USB-connectable devices, so that excludes powering a 12V TV. There are some bigger devices that will produce 12V (DC) as well as 5V and even mains (AC) but these are not so portable.

I got a chunky 5V power bank to supplement the battery of an iPhone when out and about because, in those days, a fully charged phone would not always last a day using GPS. Newer phones seem better, though, and I hardly ever use the Powerbank now. Watching TV is not a requirement for me, but I think you could do that over the internet using a phone (with data allowance) whist away. When buying devices, I try to make sure they’ll have capacity to last at least a day before recharging, then there’s no need for a Powerbank.

Back at the van, all power comes from the leisure batteries.

Correct so far. If the battery was 5V its capacity would be 540,000/5 = 108,000 mAh.

So you would need three of those beasts to give you 300,000 mAh at 5V.
Could be 30,000 mAh though. I have a book-sized one that is 26,800 mAh.

The last time we were away in the van, the 12v plug for the TV developed a fault. I plugged the TV into the 12v output from my JumpStart/ PowerBank and it worked fine for the evening, allowing me to repair the faulty TV plug the next day at my leisure.

That alleged power is the equivalent of 3 average leisure batteries. Do you really think that something that small and light could store that much energy? And if it did why are they not fitted in all motorhomes instead of the present leisure batteries.

As to checking ........................ who knows. I suspect a deliberate "error" with a decimal point.

I suggest that, rather than storing power in a separate PowerBank battery, you improve the battery capacity you already have. PowerBank batteries need to be charged and none take particularly kindly to being neglected. You might as well reduce the number of battery banks you need to look after. If the starter or habitation batteries are not performing correctly, it might be time to replace them rather than try to supplement them with something else.

Apologies for repeating what it says !

I have a jump start power bank. Battery capacity is 20000mAh, can charge for phone, laptop, and start the car.
