Can the police not give you the owners name on the V5?

The OP copied from somewhere is hardly clear and noticeably devoid of facts. If the police and council are not interested then one assumes that it is not on public property or a highway, road or pavement etc. So its probably a case of trespass.

Either consult a solicitor or take the law into your own hands and get a tractor or something to drag it out of the way!

I can sympathise, but if no offence has been committed then contacting the police AND expecting them to do something just because it's an inconvenience, isn't what I pay my tax for.....🍿

I'm sure there are plenty of other options available if it's on private land, but 'on my access' could mean lots of things. We often see posts about having the right to park a motorhome very much the same as a car, devoid of any further info, perhaps this is one of those occasions?

If it's on your land, you have every right to break into it and release the hand brake so it can be pushed or dragged out of the way. I would. You have informed the police so if they won't do anything, then it's up to you.

P.S. If the owner turns up - you don't know anything about it.

Thanks for responses - clearly nobody has heard of this van being stolen, and it doesn’t belong to a member of this group - so will delete!

I would ring the police and say there is a funny smell coming from it and you're concerned that someone may have died in it.

It's probably just been stolen and then dumped. Maybe the thief has taken what he needs and just left it off the road so the police ,as advised ,wouldn't even look at it.
For those that checked the mot and insurance status .do the plates belong to the van?

No you don't have any right to break into it I'm afraid.
Unless we want to break the law

I believe the correct procedure is as follows. And if this process has been followed and documented the local authority should be contacted and they should remove it.

Abandoned vehicles on private land

If a vehicle has been left on private land without the landowner's permission, it may be removed under the abandoned vehicles procedure.

Before requesting removal, the landowner should:

  • Try to trace the owner of the vehicle to request its removal from private property
  • If the registered keeper cannot be found, place a notice on the vehicle stating that if it is not removed from private property within seven days then the vehicle will be taken away and disposed
Landowners may be asked to provide documentary proof that these procedures have been followed. You will also need to sign a declaration giving permission to access the land to remove the vehicle.

The vehicle can be removed when ready to remove with no damage to the vehicle even without unlocking it we just put skates underneath and pull it onto a tilt and slide small van like that will go straight onto a 12 ton lorry.

Police and council aren't interested these days. There is a LWB VW LT in my road where parking is a nightmare, MOT ran out 2 months ago, it hasn't moved in that time, neither authority give a shit. I think the owner lives in the next road along as it used to park there for the last few years. If that van is Rustington west Sussex, it's the same authorities.

I thought the council HAD to remove an illegal vehicle IF it was reported. Make certain you have proof by sending an email and keeping a copy!
If it doesn't come back, they can't say they didn't receive it!
