According to the French Youtube video, the Crit Air certificate should be positioned in the bottom right of the windscreen. I'm assuming from the video that this is the RHS looking out from the drivers seat - in other words on the passenger side for a LHD vehicle. But looking at Google, there are also mentions of this being a MoT failure in the UK, suggestions that it should be on the passenger side (so left when looking out for a UK vehicle), and even top rather than bottom of the screen.

Where do others place theirs? (ours is a RHD Fiat Ducato-based coachbuilt)

Exactly. Put in the very low right hand side against the pillar and you will not have any problems. Computers with cameras read them on French roads and if you were to place it on the other side, you may well get an automatic ticket.

Hmmm… so what would happen if you don’t have one at all…🤔😎

Thank you to all who replied. My confusion - and the original reason I went to Google - was "right hand side" on the official letter with the sticker, but not specifying whether that was viewed from the inside - as it clearly seems it should be - or outside. Anyway, problem now solved :)

Agreed, as someone who has recently received their sticker, the instructions are ambiguous.

On the basis that I’d be inside the vehicle when applying the sticker, I went for RHS when looking at the screen from inside.😎

I would say 50 % of the cars parked in the street where I am staying in Toulouse today are not displaying any stickers. My camper is though 😜

I’ve never had one in the last 7yrs and I’ve driven through restricted areas, last time may-June this year for two months..

I put mine on the bottom RHS, it blocked some of my view and swept arc so moved it to the LHS. It looks a bit wrinkled and no problems so far, but never been in a controlled area 😅

Hello,

I emailed the customer services and this is their response

Good morning,
The sticker must be stuck at the bottom of the side opposite the driver.

Which is the RH side of the screen so on a RHD the same side as the driver.

Doesn't "the opposite side to the driver" simply mean stick it on the passenger's side of the windscreen, so for a typical UK registered RHD van it will be on the LHS of the windscreen in front of the passenger? Makes sense to me, and doesn't obscure the driver's vision.

No, it's France their cars are LHD, it is so officials can see it from the pavement, not much good if it's on the centre of the road side.

Talk about making a mountain out of a mole hill.....I thought the instructions supplied with mine made it very very clear.

The sticker goes bottom right of the screen on a RHD car on the same side the driver sits.

How hard can it be?

Then why did the French authorities not reply to the previously mentioned email by simply saying apply to the RHS of the windscreen rather than the opposite side to the driver?

I think its academic anyway. I don't believe anyone is actually checking the physical stickers. Much more likely to be enforcement via ANPR cameras once you're on their system. The fact that when you apply for a sticker the email you receive states the sticker will be in the post but in the meantime the email receipt is sufficient for compliance seems to indicate this.

Both vehicles I have had with the sticker in the correct position ie right hand side on a RHD vehicle looking forwards from the driver's seat have passed four MOT's with no comment, fail or advisory what so ever from any of the testers.

For those who are worried about MOT it is not a failure unless it 'significantly' reduces the view out of the screen and quotes a series of typical exemptions including official stickers. Not sure about the above confusion about left and right, my right hand remains my right hand whether I am looking in a mirror, upside down or sitting on my backside!

I can't believe that such a small sticker would seriously obstruct anyone's view in any way what so ever...

This is mine...

Well I'm sitting here looking at my letter which I got last week with my sticker, and watched the video which it links to, and I can't see that there is any questioning whatsoever. They've made it completely clear 🤷‍♂️.

Which for a right-hand drive car is the driver's side.

Do you have to put the sticker at the 1 oclock position to make it easier to read or will 12 oclock be acceptable ?

Put mine on a piece of perspex on the right hand side and stuck it behind the little plastic clip so I can remove it if needed.
