Portuguese travel question.

Apparently, 31 July is the latest MOT date that will be extended.

But there has been much rumour for weeks and weeks that the extensions were going to be withdrawn at any time. Until Government clarified.

Trouble has been recently, that your MOT extension has only been confirmed on the Govt website a few days before expiry.

So for us and others, it was a case of 'will it, or won't it' be extended?

I tried to road tax our MH as it expires at the end of this month but I have to wait until a couple of days before the end of the month before it will let me.
The MOT expires on 25/07/20

I had exactly the same problem. Our MOT was due on 29 June and tax on 1 July!

And of course I couldn't re-tax the van until the MOT had been extended on the Govt website...

Frustrating, but sorted now and MOT extended to end of December, though we'll have it done before then. (y)

The story so far is that they flew to Faro yesterday. When they got to the site where they had left the MH the site owner had made sure it started and everything was working, plus, he had washed it for them.
As far as I know they have left the site this morning and are starting to make their way back to the UK.

I'll let you know how they are getting on as soon as I know myself.

I am in a similar situation, my mot runs out on the 14th August and was under the impression that my mot had been extended by 6 months, the gov then changed there mind!!

I have driven from Portugal to France and had already booked a crossing to the UK for the 27th August, I have booked the van in for a service and test on the 28th which you are allowed to do.

I think it is a myth that not having an mot invalidates insurance, if you look at the policy I am almost certain that the wording will be along the lines of 'must be in roadworthy condition'.
Just read by Breakdown insurance and it states that my van is not covered if its SWORN or not M.O.T. d BUSBY.

Don't know whether ADAC have the same conditions, I have Nationwide as well but I think that I may risk having a breakdown for 2 weeks in any case.

They were at Caceres yesterday and are heading towards Burgos. They are hoping to be at Limoges tomorrow. The only problem they have encountered so far is noisy neighbours arriving at 10pm and not going quiet until 1am. I’m sure they will have a friendly word before they leave 😂

Tonight they are at Onati, about 100kms from the French border. They are going to make their way to their boat, which is their normal home, in Holland to check on it before coming back into the UK.
So far no problems at all.

The story so far is that they were mid way between Bordeaux and Clermont Ferrand yesterday and they are hoping to be somewhere near Dijon today.
They intend to go through Luxembourg and Belgium on the way to Holland and their boat for the essential checks to make sure it is ok. It is their main home and they have not been able to get to it since January.
That’s it next to the MH lifted out of the water for painting its bum.

My ADAC expires at the end of July,, shame..BUSBY.

They have now passed through Luxembourg and into Belgium on Saturday. They are staying there until Monday and then going to the boat. I believe they will be with the boat for up to a week and then they are going back to Calais for the tunnel to the UK.
I think by the time they get back into England quarantine won’t be an issue as they will have been out of Portugal for 14 days anyway.

They are now back in the UK after being in Holland to check on the boat and sort out a few issues with storage.
After all the travelling they have done they were not stopped or checked anywhere. When they got out of the Chunnel they drove straight to Manchester to collect their car and then drive to their apartment in Yorkshire. They are finishing off the 14 day quarantine from Portugal and then going to York to prepare their student let accommodation for the next batch.
They were very careful with contact with other people on their journey and only met with other people when they shopped. Always wore masks and sanitized at every occasion.
They were sensible and cautious and hopefully all will be well.
