Portugese Tolls

Went to Tourist Information office in Bragança on Wednesday and a lovely lovely lady told us the following, in perfect English>>>>>>>>

1. Take documents to Post Office and register vehicle but it can be time consuming.

2. Register at automatic machine at border point but not many of those ...... Yet!

3. Ignore them as foreign number plates cannot be read by the ANPR system ....... YET!!!!!

Take from this post what you will and enjoy your trip

While it is true that you will probably never hear from Portuguese toll road company if you do not register, please be warned that (occasionally) the police has started to stop foreign registered vehicles to check if they have registered or not on the A22. So if you come from Seville, do stop when crossing the border at VRS Antonio to register. better safe than sorry, there are better ways to spend your money then on fines...

Can anyone tell me if the A2 motorway leading to the Algarve still has manual tollbooths where you can pay with a CC card or cash , were entering Portugal via Badajoz and intending to take junction 10 exit of the A6 motorway which I think is before the Tolled section then travelling via Estremoz on the N4 / N18 to Evora and south to Beja and join the A2 motorway via Castro Verde and onto Albufiera .
The Portuguese toll road website has the A2 as manual peage .
