Has anyone been there in a motorhome and been able to park either in or nearby, it seems that might be very difficult but I am in the area and would like to have a loo around

Hard to park near there with a van but you might be better to park along the seafront as they have unmarked bays parallel to the road.
Only 10 min walk into the dockyard from there, Old Portsmouth should also be ok and a bit nearer

Alternatively park in Port Solent and get the bus in.

The only two nearby car parks wouldn't have enough headroom, and you certainly wouldn't be able to take the van into the dockyard. Surface parking near the dockyard isn't plentiful but you may be lucky - we have been before.

Pretty sure the park and ride on the m275 is suitable . The dockyard is fascinating BTW - allow a whole day

You'll have to go some to do it all in a day. As for parking, I wouldn't take my car down to Old Portsmouth.

The park and ride should be okay but otherwise check if you have to enter the LEZ whether you need to pay or not.

There is a 2.1m height barrier at the park & ride.

It may be possible to park over at Gosport as there is a submarine museum which is part of it and also the Explosives museum and they ferry you back and fore
