Portsmouth border agency asking for pork products

Hook of Holland to Harwich yesterday waved us through

We went through the tunnel last month with a full fridge and freezer ( plenty of pork because we were headed to Morocco) and no one asked us.
That’s going the opposite way. This is U.K. border Force asking the questions.

This is an interesting thread, we’ll find out what happens on 1/5 on our arrival in Portsmouth

Weve been through lots of times in the last 2 years and not once has anyone even been inside.

We’ve been searched a number of times on the Belgium to Hull ferry by U.K. Border Force all pre Brexit

Arrived at Portsmouth yesterday afternoon from Santander and whilst having the inside of the van searched (all MHs being searched inside) I was asked if we had any Pork or pork products?
It is probably because swine fever is on the rise in eastern Europe and there is a nervousness about importing infected meat and introducing in it into the UK, especially as our hapless government has not got the correct level of inspections in place.

A few years ago, before covid and possibly before brexit, I was turned over in Portsmouth, waiting to get on the St Malo ferry, by a middle aged female operative. She started searching the caravan and asked me if I had any knives. I carry an almost full set of Chef's knives and she had already missed them as I wrap them to protect the blades, which I always keep ultra sharp. I lied and said, "no" as I knew she was out to assert her authority, which was probably something new to her as she was totally unprofessional. She went on to tell me that you're not allowed to have knives in a caravan. I felt like asking her for some instructions on the preparation of food without a knife, but I somehow knew that would lead to an extensive search with the removal of every thing from the car as well as the caravan. I tolerated the stupid b***h for a couple of minutes longer and managed to keep my trap shut and hoped my wife would as well (I could see she was having difficulty). I continued on my journey realising what sort of dumbos we employ on border control (she couldn't have been Customs because I have worked with them in my previous life and they are generally quite professional).

These searches are done for a reason, as they know the background for a search to be done in the first place. But because they do their job as required, why on earth are they then told to get a proper job, because they do what they are paid to do. Unbelievable!!!

This thread started with searches for pork.

Can anyone show where pork was promulgated as being a banned import into UK?

Yep it was fine on the trip this weekend. Everything was frozen and big block of bacon we’d had to put in the fridge has de-frosted nicely and ready to use this week 😀

It is banned if it is not of one of the types permitted.

Up until post 38 you’re right, it was about restrictions not bans, and about pork. There was some comment about jobsworths, with others pointing to the restriction requirements.
Those restriction requirements are, if you don’t comply with them, effectively a ban which has a very serious purpose to it.
For things like this the Border Agency are in the main intelligence led. They know from experience most Motorhomers might bring in from France some speciality sausage or other pork, and that in the main it will comply with the restrictions. The odd one every now and again will get a random check for something.
Given this was in the middle of an industrial dispute, and more and longer checks were being carried out, it would be reasonable to assume that actually it was more to do with working to rule as part of an industrial dispute, rather than any specific intelligence.
In a way, it supports normal working where very few are stopped for anything is the norm, and far from being jobsworths the opposite can be assumed.

I took a full cooked breakfast. Then I said to the wife, where are the Mushrooms.

She said with all the bacon and eggs, we didn't have Mushroom for anything else
You really are a FUNgi to be around considering all the crap you have to contend with. Could have been looking for tomaTOES but they grew feet and ran away
