Portmerion Motorhome Stop - coming soon

By putting in facilities they will be able to host smaller campervans without an onboard toilet or shower, as well as full-size MHs. And I think that is a significant additional market.

And although your view is clearly strongly held, it is not necessarily the preference of all motorhomers.

Point made but for many of us who would like to see more 'aires' in UK one of the constant barriers is that the councils seem to believe that we need facilities and therefore its going to be too difficult and expensive to provide.

Its for campervans, not motorhomes I suspect ..... and it could turn into a real dogfight for spaces, but it's a positive step so we should really be pleased its happening

Understand what you are saying - up to a point - but this is not a Council initiative, as I understand, but a commercial one by the owners of Portmerian. Surely, it is for them to determine and decide what market they want to serve? And the fact they want to specifically make provision for motohomes and campervans must surely be a good thing and to be welcomed. (y)

I'm all in favour as per my previous comment - the more the merrier for me. I was trying to enlarge a little on the point that I think Lenny HB was making

But then you effectively turn it into a site, to me that defeats the point of having a Motorhome stopover.
The UK needs Aires near attractions and towns not campsites, there are enough of them already.

I doubt that this has been provided as a stopover for wandering travellers but more of a tool to sell the village. I would bet that it will be tied in to entry to the site not as a stand alone facility.

When does a campervan become a motorhome? In France they are all camping cars.We call ours a campervan sometimes, other times a motorhome.

I'm wondering if the "confusion" around what this is is coming from the thread title vs the wording in the planning application?
Whilst the title says "Stop" the application says "Site". The sign in the photo possibly leads to further "confusion" by using the term "Park".
Certainly looks to me to be a commercial site restricted to motorhomes rather than an "aire" type facility.

Any council or body of people who are willing to dedicate a plot of land for us to use should be applauded. Others might notice this successfully grow, and follow suit. Hopefully this is the thin end of the wedge.
Major attractions should have one night stopovers this would increase their turnover.

It's a 'Cynllun' [Plan] for a 'Maes' '[Area/ Park/field] for 'Cerbydau' [vehicles] for Teithio [travelling]. It's all in the translation

Or just read the provided English version of the planning application
"Application to create a camping site to site 23 motor homes together with alterations to services building previously approved under C17/0116/08/LL together with associated landscaping works."
