Portable air con

I bought a unit from CoolMyCamper. Its very good, cools the van down well. Downsides, its a little on the heavy side, it is also a bit fiddly to set up (needs two people really).

The condenser must be placed outside. The air in the room is recirculated.
The portable units I know of are always inside the room with a flexible duct going out a window, when the condenser unit is outside it's a split system.

Edit: I think you're referring to the Eurom one as portable... OK portable split 😁👍

Yes you are right. There are to types of portables. Flexible duct or split System. Both have to reject to outside.

A shady pitch is half the battle.

We use a Trancool unit when travelling abroad with our Wirehaired Vizsla.
It works reasonably well when it is just too hot for her.
At home Our dog sometimes lays outside in the shade, or comes indoors to lay on the cold kitchen floor tiles...You can also buy dog cooling mats, which have a gel lining which is “cold” with the pressure of the laying on it. Cost less than £25 on Amazon, so I might buy one for our dog

The better quality ones like the transcool do work well, we use one and at 35degrees that we had at Malvern it was very effective. They are quieter than an aircon, use little power and dont dry your mouth and eyes out. They also wash the air removing pollen and dust as they end the air through a honeycombed wet filter.
We leave ours running low through the night even when wild camping.
Do not confuse them with JML types of units that are poor.

I bought mine for the MoHo but use it at home too when it gets really hot. Love it! It isn’t heavy either.

That makes sense as I said if the water vapour condenses in the room theres no heat loss. I wonder if there's a legionella risk if they're not regularly disinfected.

the filter lasts 100 hours

We were in Benidorm last August and it was very warm. The best thing for cooling off in the van is spray yourself with water and sit next to a fan.👌
When the water starts to dry up it's like sitting having a hair dryer blowing on you 😏

We use a cool coat on our dog from www.keepcool.org.uk
They are quite expensive, however, we have used them on all our dogs over the years and have been very impressed. Quite often, when I've been out with our pupster, folk will ask why she has a coat on in such hot weather, so I tell them to touch the coat and they are amazed at how cool they are.
