POOR BOOKING FACILITY Camping and Caravanning Club

The example above from trust pilot demonstrates the lack of replies to customer complaints. I think I have now demonstrated enough to show the lacking in customer service. I can only hope that the club and most importantly the chief executive takes notice.

We used to use the CCC website as an example of how not to make websites when training web designers.

Unless it's improved in the last two years, once lessons start up again, I'll be back to using it as a classic example of what not to do.
Much has changed over the past two years, if CCC booking is one of them, who can say, but, I would imagine that if one was biased against any organisation, one could find examples to criticize?

As I have never had any problems, am I a genius? (That will be a first!) 😆

I think you may have had a little bit of luck alongside your obvious genius 😀

My biggest gripe is the fact that, if I try to book 5 days, it will say they are unavailable even if it's just one night that's fully booked. There is no way of knowing which night that is though!

I think using the late availability resource is a top tip (although I can't seem to find that on the app. - only on the website)

Totally agree with the OP. We belong to both clubs but tend to favour the CAMC because of the ease of booking. To be able to see the availability of all types of pitch makes the booking process so much easier. We just work around what's free.

I'm, probably, the furthest away from being a genius that you could find but I am lucky.
In a situation as you describe it, I would ring the site direct, (telephone numbers are in the OLD site directories) They can usually sort something for you, a day of no EHU for example.

My Nokia 6210 doesn't do Apps, whatever they are :giggle: so cannot comment.

PS. I thought the late availability resource was only available on the C&MHC site?? I will have to investigate.

Interestingly we are booked for a couple of nights at the Culzean site next week. The e:mail just received to advise us they will be taking the balance of the site fees on Monday gives a list of dates with likely pitch availability over the summer months. That's great, but would have been more useful if the information had been available before I booked!

Another example of the poor quality of the system for members is that one cannot store your van details alongside your membership data so every time you try to make a booking you have to enter:-

Type of unit
Awning Yes or No
Length
Width

So unfriendly and such a waste of timed!

I cannot believe WHY this club will not provide a more friendly (supposedly the friendly club) search facility with FLEXIBLE DATE field when searching for a site pitch!!

... when Most other APPS, Websites, and certainly the Caravan and Motorhome club site, offer this!!

Most of the time, we are very flexible as to what dates we want to book a particular site, and hence if the preferred dates are not available, we will search for ANY available dates and plan our tour around this. If no such search option is available, then you have to keep trying to add various dates, which is such a laborious task. If many of these other clubs, private companies, and app providers can do this, then surely so can this club. I have even sent several emails to the club with such request, and after a prolonged wait for reply, the reply has been very template driven, rather than someone really taking notice of the existing problem.

I would be interested to hear others opinion, along with a reply from one of the clubs managers.

I have tried to amend an existing booking this morning and to see what other alternative dates are available, and as the flexible date search filed is not available, and after inputting many various dates, had given up and resorted to a direct telephone call. Surprise, surprise, ....... 18 others in the queue with the last callers call time over 10 mins, meaning a wait time for my call to be answered of around 180 mins (3 hours) of course assuming each call took 10 mins!!

... mmm the not so friendly call centre!!

Very disgruntled member.
Totally agree, hopeless, plus when you look for availability, and is states yes, then try booking for 8.3 mtr and " sorry cannot find a pitch to suit " comes up everytime, then you call the site and "Yes when do you want to come" it seems the web-site cannot take bookings for anything over 8 mtr.

weve been forced to join to meet up with friends im yet to find a booking at any other time we thought we could just see a callender of temp hol sites but have to search each da for them and then find they are running there ths in a different area whole website is not fit for purpose

Have you tried the Out and About App?

If you have the site numbers as you appear to have, why not ring the site without going on the website?

As a single OAP, I use the CCC sites most of the time because, as now at Scarborough, I have discounts and last night cost me, with EHU, £15.91 which I think is more than reasonable?

I have a van with all the facilities so have no need for the site facilities BUT, as yet, I have never found any that are 'wanting', if I do, I report it to the site wardens and it's dealt with.

As for the booking, I must be much cleverer than I thought because I rarely have problems. Perhaps it's like a lot of things on the computer, it's all about how often one uses the programme?

IF your a member, which you HAVE to be to stay on the THS's I believe, you can, as I do, get sent a monthly booklet along with the magazine, that shows ALL the THS's?

Can only find the site number on the web-site
They used to be in the old site books a few years ago, the assist number now goes straight to their call help site.

Depends on your membership whether you have the more costly paper membership, or cheaper digital membership.

As a singleton, the C&CC campsites can often work out good value, especially midweek, as there is often a good discount on the standard rate. I'm off today for three nights on a site in Sussex, no EHU for just over £11 a night. Most CS and CLs want more and they wouldn't have any facilities block.

The website is a bit clunky, but it does work. It's designed to allow you to search based on when you want to go away i.e by a range of dates. If yo click on any specific site, for the next couple of months you can scroll down and see a listing for the weeks ahead that shows if the site's bookings are predicted as busy or not, which gives you a clue on availability. Size of your unit, and awning does make a difference on many of the sites. Their standard pitch is only 6m x 8m, so a MH longer may need an XL pitch. The site I'm going to is quite wooded and they know some pitches offer the overall area, but in perhaps an irregular shape so an awning wouldn't work as perhaps a space is longer but a bit narrower due to a tree trunk.

Also their discount codes are difficult to work out which ones might be applicable for your booking.

I just keep a file with them all in and copy/paste each one to try and see which one gives the better price, if any!

Good innit? 😀

My pitch at Ebury Hill is costing £6.50 a night!

Hi Janine, it is possible to see which days are already booked up, using the website booking facility but not on the app as far as I can tell.
On the website put in all the details i.e. the area, all campsites, motorhome, awning yes or no, the dimensions but this is important, leave the dates field blank.
Hit the search button, it will come up with a list of sites, select the site and click to book, it will then prompt you to select a type of pitch. Say you select hard standing with electric it will then show a calender, the dates not available will be in a light grey text. You can also reselect the type of pitch to see which dates are available on say grass with electric.
It sounds a bit convoluted but once you've done it that way a couple of times, it's straight forward.

Just as a comparison, tonight I'm stopping at C&MHC Whitley Bay. Fantastic location but the ground is very uneven in places and it's costing me £21.20. That £5.30 (or five cans of Guinness 😭 ) more than last night!🤔
