Has anyone recently sailed from Poole to Cherbourg, just wondering what the latest advice is for parking a motorhome in the area for overnight stay prior to early morning sailing. I have been advised it would cost £15. Just wondered if anyone had any info or recomendations for parking somewhere local overnight, and for the return journey which will be a late crossing, so may need to stay local for the night to make the journey home early the following morning. Any help would be appreciated.

Regards John

The Bakers Arms pub just down the road in Lytchett is a great stopover. Worth ringing them first as they can get busy. Lovely menu too. Other options are Poole Rugby club ground in Hamworthy. The port isn’t a bad option though as it’s extremely close to some good restaurants and bars on the quay. It’s not a busy port you may even find a space in their area when you get back at 9.45. The rugby club would good for the return as you come out if the port and its on the left in Hamworthy about a mile down the road. There is also a Lidl that closes at 10 and I have seen the occasional van there in the early morning.

We stayed last night. I didn’t realise you were supposed to pay £15. When we arrived there was just a sign at the unmanned booth to park in lanes 15 and 17. We set the alarm for 6. Glad we did as we’d not even drunk our coffee before we were moved through Passport control. Had to sort the bed etc after! A man was knocking on the door.

No idea where you were supposed to pay or when.

We’re off to Cherbourg next week and booked in at the bakers arms for the night before the early crossing …the owner informed us that it’s their last season of allowing Mo-hos to stay 😔

That’s a shame. Did he say why ? My guess is that they are a very popular pub and it gets very busy.

We have sailed from there for the last 4 times, always got there after 21:30, just parked in the ferry lanes but far enough from the checkin booths not to obstruct anyone if we are not up when they start moving.

Sailed in June and parked up in the evening on the far right near the terminal building. Some parked directly in the lanes overnight, but we moved in the morning. The toilet building is open all night and the cafe opens in the morning. We weren't asked to pay and as far as I know the other half a dozen MHs weren't either.

Do you know if you can park at the terminal for an overnighter off a late ferry?

Officially no I would say but when we left last Thursday my husband did comment that there is a lot of space after you go through customs and it would be easy to just park up somewhere in that area. There were a couple of smallish vans in the ordinary carpark as we left that looked like they were there for the night.

Morning all

Just to let you know the cafe has officially closed at the beginning of August, not sure why or if there where politics arounds it but from the wording sounded like it wasn't something they wanted to happen and maybe due to the regeneration of the area

We stayed in the check in lanes in late July this year, we arrived at about 11pm and there were a few others already parked up. Put the alarm on for 6 just in time to check in. I asked then where we had to pay and the very nice lady said that Poole Harbour came up with the idea of charging, but for Brittany ferries to collect the money, and from there it seems the idea has been dropped.

The cafe is trying it on to get you to pay. There used to be a charge but it was stopped and you paid it in cafe. There is a sign on the far wall where the charge has been scrubbed out.

We park in the lane early evening going out and by the big building on the way back. You need to get up early or you will get woken up by a man knocking on the door. Never been asked for money

My guess is inconsiderate MH's leaving early in the morning but who knows, perhaps Go_buddy_go_ could ask? 🤔
I’ll def ask why when we stay next week… hoping that they may let us stop over on the way back too … a little snooze before setting off for home the next day would be good 😊

Maybe motorhomes parking up and not using the pub ?
This has happened in other pubstops. Some pubs now charge £10-15 but refund you when buying a meal etc

Doing the same crossing next week. Called the parking number to check and was told ok to arrive the evening before, park in lanes and use the parking info and QR code to pay £15.

We sailed Poole to Cherbourg yesterday morning (27th) and overnighted in the port for the 0830 sailing with about 8 other motorhomes plus a couple more for the early Condor Ferries sailing to the Channel Islands. No one came to collect cash and there is no signage about payment by QR (hope we didn’t miss something!). It was nice and quiet until around 0600 when activity started for the Condor ferry. Check-in started from 0630.
There are reasonable toilets next to the small cafe at the side of the car park.

We were with you in our white PVC. Don’t have a MHF sticker yet as the van’s brand new. We came down about 8.30 Monday night. Didn’t see anything about paying either.
