It has an aerial outside and another inside to amplify the signal from the tower and your phone

so no data sim card ? it sounds just what am looking for as i want to use the data on my phone, so it sends a stronger signal wirelessly to my phone ?

The outside ariel is surely directional? That would mean that you would have to manually point it to a mast.

My Nikrans NS-GW-Drive-1 booster works without a sim card and has an omni directional aerial. It is designed for mobile use in a car where a directional one would be useless. As already reported the signal gain is low but this appears to be an Ofcom/CE requirement. If it is more powerful it will start interfering with the telecoms system and other peoples phones. The home ones are more powerful but their use outside buildings in cars, caravans and mobile homes is illegal.

I am reposting the Ofcom rules.

When I worked in Ireland, a long time ago, if you were in range of ANY mast you could use your phone. Always had a signal from some company at no extra cost. Couldn't we ask the Irish to build our masts for us?
the shared rural network is supposed to do the same thing over here but what with covid and general heel dragging by the providers it is now 2024 before we will get any benefits and a couple of years after that before the 95% uk cvoverage it aims for

I believe the one exception is 999 calls, I was told recently that phones will use other networks for emergency calls.

Is this similar to how it works in Norway? We have just had a long trip there and from the south to as far north as Narvic we always had a signal. In the bottom of fjords (not literally!!) and high up in remote areas the telephones just worked. Mostly strong enough to use as a hotspot for the amazon firestick when required. Why can we not get this coverage?
