We have just bought an 1100 bag of PG Tips, which usually last abour a year, only to find that they have done away with pyramid bags and changed to flat bags as well as changing the source if the tea. Result is insipid, flavourless tea even after 5 minutes steeping. I've seen reports that the makers say better tea, better saturation with flat bags, which is rubbish. This is all about profit. How do you feel?

Coop red label. It’s Fair trade tea which to us is important.

We used to get the 1040 bags of Yorkshire Tea from Costco, two or three a year needed, but they have swapped to 2x240 cardboard boxes. Maybe less plastic packaging?

Weren't the Pyramid tea bags plastic in some way?

We have had the tea conversation many times here on Fun, result of which has shown that most Funsters, especially the Northerners prefer Yorkshire Tea, some of them preferring The Yorkshire Gold over the normal blend.

I have tried most of the well known labels over my lifetime, even my grannies old favourite Co Op Dividend Loose Leaf.
I have stuck with Sainsburys Red Label Tea Bags for 50 years now, tried others including Assam & English Breakfast from M&S, which were OK.

I think blends change over time, or maybe our palettes alter as we age, often the change is not for the better, but all I do know is that you can instantly tell if any tea hits the spot or not, always a major disappointment when it doesn't and you have a box then to finish somehow.

I was surprised to learn that Yorkshire tea was launched in the mid 70s, I remember trying the Hard Water blend they marketed for us down south, but it was very disappointing at the time.

JS Red Label Tea is still my preferred every day tea, its amasing to notice the change in colour & flavour as we tour round the country in the van with differing levels of water hardness.

I'd assumed as much, because they looked exactly the same coming out of my compost bin as when they went in the year before!!

I'm surprised at the quality of Tetley, our go to emergency brand, both their normal & strong tea bags. Twinings breakfast which is a blend of Ceylon & Assam is a decent brew. We're not fans of either Yorkshire (Taylors/Betty's), Typhoo or PG. We use Brew Tea Company & Pact for coffee.

Twinings English Breakfast for me. A decent brew with just the smallest rumour of milk. Darjeeling in the afternoon, no milk

Yorkshire Gold , no milk, brewed for 5 mins or so. Fine if it goes cold on a hot day even if I’ve left the bag in. No such thing as too strong.

Tetley is like dishwater, need 2 bags in a small cup.

My wife likes Yorkshire Tea but then again she is a Kent native. Being from the Red Rose County I have been drinking Lancashire Tea. Mmmmm.

Typhoo Tea is set to appoint administrators as the 120-year-old brand's sales slump, losses widen and debts rise.
The makers of Yorkshire tea.

Yorkshire Tea is made by Taylors of Harrogate part of the Bettys and Taylors Group

My Nan drank tea you could stand a spoon up in and always said weak tea was "water bewitched, tea begrudged"🫖

Did you lot not hear of coffee?
 Even the smell makes me feel ill. As a young apprentice based in Windsor, I had to take a detour on the walk from the bus stop as the smell coming out of the Italian coffee shop in Peascod St. turned my gut's right over.

Anyone like Farrer's tea and coffee?

Many years ago the firm belonged to one of my ancestors and Farrer's Tea Shop in Kendal is worth a visit (also no longer owned by the family).

Tea is probably the worst drink in the whole world (not counting energy drinks obviously). 😀

Tea bags do split easier these days, Good reason for that, most have been shamed into removing the plastic we were drinking! I used to have tea bags survive two years in a chicken poo dung heap, and trust me when I say that stuff will compost bone. Even so, you'd go to pot some plant with nice rich two year old composts and there among it all were good as new intact teabags. They break down much quicker these days .

The only time I have drunk tea in the last 60 years was when I had to have a meeting with the Fisheries Minister in the Gaza Strip when I volunteered to give training to Gazan fishery officers in about 1996 or 97. I was 'advised' that to refuse tea would be seen as an insult, so I sipped a small cup of tea for half an hour as we exchanged polite conversation, but I found the taste awful. However, occasionally my wife drinks tea, usually Yorkshire Gold, which she "claims" is lovely, and she is a Cornish girl!!!
