Peterborough - Tired old show or did i miss the best bits?

For many years I took a stall at the major classic motorbike shows/autojumbles with new and s/h parts and bits 'n bobs but like many others I rely on selling via auction sites now with less hassle and greater profit.
What with the cost of a pitch @ c£75 to £150, loading and unloading the van, travel costs, very early starts, pilferage and standing about all day listening to smug tyre-kickers saying how the same stuff could be bought online for tuppence less it just wasn't worth it.

Surely the demise of motorhome sales, due to the debate of incoming electric
drivetrains, has left people and manufacturers unsure of the future.
I don't think I would like to spend upwards of £50K + for a new van with all this
indecision.... :Eeek:

The motorhome market is very buoyant. People no longer need to go to shows to see the latest gadgets and buy accessories, that is what the internet is for.

We as a Company used to attend eight to ten open air shows a year, we do none now.

Shows, like the High Street have changed and will change further, and the shows will no doubt end up being called "festivals" the costs to attend will rocket to replace the income from the traders.

For Van Bitz to attend the Peterborough show runs into thousands of pounds when you add in the all the actual costs, which was fine all the while we thought that there was a reason for us to attend. Four staff sitting in the exhibition unit whiling the time away till Six O'Clock so we can go to the beer tent isn't a good reason lol

I guess it suits a mobile firm more then one with workshops etc to pay for as well , as your paying twice in a way .

It's coming to something when you go to a motorhome show to buy toothpaste! What next, a while you wait vasectomy clinic?

It was there last year, but closed down. No demand - have you seen the average age of motorhomers??

I think the guy who did mine used a couple of house bricks. And he charged me £50 I think.:eek::roflmto::roflmto:
Think that's bad a friend of mine got circumcised when he was younger and couldn't walk for a year

Had another look at the rv's, but a salesman didn't really have a clue, one was advertised as under 7.5ton, but when I pointed out it was downrated from over 8tons he didn't seem to understand.

We had a Labrador like that, selective on what it wanted to hear. Haha

Never mind the shortcomings of the show, what about the godawful smell in the ladies showers/toilets !! No, it wasn't what you think, it was faintly obvious on Thursday afternoon, but by Friday morning, well !!

I know the Mrs went in there on Thursday but, as far as I know, she wasn’t there on Friday! :giggler:

I think it could have been re-sold to motorhomers in need of gas ! Someone remarked that it was from the Elsan point outside, but it was definitely drains, Urrgh !

Usually the men get the blame for their 'poor aim' , what was the problem in the ladies ?

Now then, I know this may not be a subject for a Sunday evening......I expect some of us have just got back from church and are tucking into our cucumber sandwiches, but something needs to be said.......
and I’m going to say it!!!!(y)

It’s on the subject of “aiming”. Well, more to the point, wimmins aiming.
You see,the point is,us men always, yes always get the blame for the wee wee being on the floor and not in the porcelain. As all men know,it can be a bit challenging to aim perfectly every time, for a number of reasons:

1. Haste. Men of a certain age might be in a bit of a rush to point Percy before an accident happeneth.
2. Length. Those with large distribution units may under estimate the angle of the dangle. Those with small ones.........well there’s no hope really.
3 You’re pissed.
.:LOL::LOL::confused::confused:

BUT,what excuse do the ladies have??????
My darling wife often informs me that there are puddles of piddle in the ladies that she frequents and is constantly agog at how that happens..(n)

Now,I reckon I’m pretty au fait ( that’s French don’t you know):rolleyes: with the female anatomy,my wife may disagree :D:D but I fail to understand how wimmins fail to get it in the right place.

Any ideas?

I think the ladies have a washer/ seal or similar that wears out after a while , maybe like the example [1] above that is the problem . Perhaps instead of toothpaste, cat food, stir fry sauce and fruit and nut bars in the free goody bag handed on arrival next year Warners should include incontinent pads .

Well we had a pretty good time !
There were lass traders than previous year, but comparing it seems a lot did not turn up because the expected storm ..
It was cold and bloody windy which stopped a lot of the usual socialising but the Fun tent was still excellent !

Fantastic evenings entertainment tonight, yelloh an ELO tribute band where terriffic and got a well deserved standing ovation when they finished.
The group before them was also very good, so thanks for a good night Warner's.

Trev Shirley recons they have never been cleaned for months in this day it’s just not acceptable. More suggestions above !

I think you underestimate the impact of your presence at a show. We first met you at NEC, and I doubt if we would have bought our learn and tracker from you if we had not. Your discount is also what made us join MHF in the first place. You have a lot to answer for! Once we had dealt with, your service and after sales service led us back for the Sattllite, TV, battery master, non starter MetaTrak etc, plus recommendations to lots of others

Thank you, we still exhibit at the NEC February and the NEC October

We don’t give up a show lightly, especially after 28 consecutive years, but when we bring back pretty much all of the promotional stuff we took, and we are bored stiff on the stand as the aisles are empty, and our petty cash tin is empty as we have gorged on pies, ice creams and pasties, you start to think “Hhhhhhmn!”

And of course on a Sunday morning the only people wandering around are other traders asking if it’s “ Only them” who are quiet?

I can’t comment on Warner’s, but in previous years, with other organisers, the motorhome dealers pay the least with a substantial square metre discount, the accessory traders paid the most, but most annoyingly, all last minute space was let to market traders at a fraction of the “Pre Booked” price

So you could be next to a “barrow boy” yelling all weekend at his carpet shampoo is the Bee’s Knees, and your tiny bit of grass has cost you a Grand and “Del boy” has paid £100 at the last minute

You could always do the same Eddie and opt out till the last minute and if you get a large enough discount take advantage.
We found exactly the same as you with regard to exhibitions (different market sector) and I suspect it is a common thread across all industries. Once you take into account cost of stand, staffing, materials etc plus time away from 'real work' then exhibitions need to generate significant revenue to be sustainable.

Ladies loos were clean enough to start with, however that wasn't the real problem ! The problem was the very overpowering stench from drains ? or somewhere, not able to hold my breath for that long. You do get what what you get at an event, but the organisers need to address this awful problem sometime soon !

The trouble is other than Shepton, all the shows are dotted around so logistically, last minute booking is never feasible, fine locally for a one man band but staff get quite upset when you tell them that they are working all weekend a couple of hours before you need to leave on a Thursday morning lol

You hit the nail on the head with the "real work" back at HQ as we are always very busy, so loosing four of us last Wednesday Thursday and Friday from the office, and, having worked all weekend, being in grumpy and tired on a Monday morning after a drive back last night from Peterborough all add's to the decision making about if a show is "do'able" or not.

Well as long as you're all fit fresh and healthy for when I arrive on the 20th!

Just received an email this morning for an NEC exhibition for March 2020.

4m * 3m £5220 plus vat no lighting or electric included! Special one time only offer if I commit today £4800 plus vat.

What planet are these people on?

I guess in the sense of balance, you don’t know how much the nec etc are charging the organisation that’s putting on the show. Am not defending either but unless we know it all we don’t know if it’s unfair.
