Perfect Motorhome

It has taken me four motorhomes to arrive at what I consider my perfect van; I am genuinely hard pressed to think of anything that I would change on my current van (after carrying out a few very minor amendments myself) – only perhaps a slightly longer bed (and I am not tall). All of my previous vans meant compromises and I could not now ever think about foregoing a good sized bathroom with a genuinely separate shower, loads of storage, a proper oven and hob, a dinette with a fixed table, a fixed bed and Alde heating - plus plenty of little things too numerous to mention. The only one of these things that I have always had is a fixed bed albeit that in my first two vans these were lutons.

Of course, much of this is driven by innovation (and what one can afford); when I bought my first van, cassette toilets (now essentially a given) were a novelty, ovens were tiny and not very good, fixed beds were pretty much unknown outside of RVs, Alde heating, despite being invented in the sixties, was unheard of and a glance at Which Motorcaravan of the time shows low profiles to be non-existent.

As I summarise this thread, except for those that changed for lifestyle/health reasons the ones that still have their first choice had mostly declared that they had done considerable research before buying.

The dealers must rub their hands with glee(if not money glue) when they meet buyers who have got it wrong first time, and probably want them to get it wrong second time too.

The best is still our present Hymer B678 bought new in 2015. Twin singles, because of the getting up in the night. It's a keeper. And it was number 2.
As you know we were the same Peter Our first one (2006 B564) was brilliant, and we never thought we would change it. However, we felt future proofing would be a timely thing to do, as the ‘compromise’ of a drop down bed was looming up in the distance. ? We changed to a 2013 B690 with island bed and we love it. Cliff took a lot longer to fall in love with the second one though .... I can still see him hanging on to bumper of the 564 as it left the drive ....

On my second van A Class Adria Sonic i700SL 3.0l Auto, with twin beds and it’s a keeper, it’s everything we need, well built and aesthetically pleasing, LHD and a ton of payload, what’s not to like?? If I were to change it would probably for another Adria, unless I won some “Morelo” money??

You think motorhomes are bad, you ought to peek into the world of Harley Davidson!!
I’ve been there and lost enough money to buy Robert Clark s N&B outright, that’s why I’m on the Backfoot for the next few years!!???

weve had three vans and each was perfect for us at the time things change in life so your needs from a motorhome change as well

I was a bachelor still when I bought the Arto nearly 11 years ago, then 9 years ago I coupled up living with my current lady, but she has never suggested we change the MH. We both enjoy it very much, so maybe I was lucky with the choice of MH, and lady.

Geoff.

When we bought our first MH I was told you don’t get what you really want/need until you’re on your 3rd one. What’s been your absolute best MH and more to the point, was it number 3? ?
Yes our third! First one was a Swift ?, second one a Pilote and we now have a beautiful Laika Ecovip 712, which we are extremely happy with.

That is a friends dream MH. I’d never heard of them until she showed me one. They are lovely vans. No wonder you are so happy with it. ??

Most of our 13 vans were perfect when we signed on the dotted line, however times and lifestyle changes over the 12 years we have been motorhoming meant there was always a good (for us anyway) reason for changing. A couple of mistakes on the way (and yes over the years it has cost us!) but the current one a Pilote Explorateur G741LJE is the business for us.

Very true. Everyone’s circumstances are different as are the paths life takes us along. Our current Motorhome was perfect for us when we bought it but is less suitable for the holidays we can now take.....well, hope to in the future.

First one was the best, and the one we have fondest memories of. Changed it after we had learned about 'payload' and got a bigger one. third one was forced upon us to drop below 3.5t and has been the worst - mainly because it's on a Fiat.
The "Perfect" motorhome only exists in peoples' minds.
