It has taken me four motorhomes to arrive at what I consider my perfect van; I am genuinely hard pressed to think of anything that I would change on my current van (after carrying out a few very minor amendments myself) – only perhaps a slightly longer bed (and I am not tall). All of my previous vans meant compromises and I could not now ever think about foregoing a good sized bathroom with a genuinely separate shower, loads of storage, a proper oven and hob, a dinette with a fixed table, a fixed bed and Alde heating - plus plenty of little things too numerous to mention. The only one of these things that I have always had is a fixed bed albeit that in my first two vans these were lutons.
Of course, much of this is driven by innovation (and what one can afford); when I bought my first van, cassette toilets (now essentially a given) were a novelty, ovens were tiny and not very good, fixed beds were pretty much unknown outside of RVs, Alde heating, despite being invented in the sixties, was unheard of and a glance at Which Motorcaravan of the time shows low profiles to be non-existent.
