When we were out walking we stopped to talk to a couple sitting outside there motorhome at a remote spot near the Mull of Kintyre. After a minute or 2 of exchanging a few pleasantries the bloke suddenly stood up said "well enjoy your walk" and went inside, very rude but we got the message. Maybe he was just having a bad day.

I agree we constantly have conversations with others, it might help for those who don't like to talk to others while on a site to put a little sign up saying something like "We politely ask you that we like our Privacy" I would respect and understand that

I often talk to people on sites. I travel alone so if I didn't make the first move I'd mostly never talk to anyone. And sometimes, tbh, that's absolutely fine! I'm used to my own company and can fill my time without harassing others. But if I see someone doing something interesting, or with a nice looking van, or using some gizmo or gadget I've been considering or whatever, I'll sometimes stop and say hello. It's usually obvious pretty quickly whether people want to talk or not. If I'm unsure I'll come right out and ask if they're happy to chat: 'Is now a good time for a natter?' or similar! In my experience most people have been happy to talk about their van, their hobby, or their travel experience.

The only time I've found it a bit wearying the other way around was when people abandon their children once on site, and I've had them climbing on my gear and even on one occasion climbing into my van without an invitation.

On the other hand, I had an absolutely fascinating conversation with a total stranger on a Dutch site, because he was interested in the aircraft on my van. We kept in touch until I heard he'd passed away a couple of years later. And on a UK site someone else interested in my van's theme also came across to chat and ended up coming back the next evening with a couple from another van and a bottle of whiskey!

I love talking to Dutch people as I find them very friendly. My late parents made great friends with a Dutch family in the 60’s as we were in a caravan and them a tent, had a storm one night and they got soaked so my parents invited them in to caravan to get dry. We had Dutch neighbours at Bonterra last year, lovely people.

Yes I think Dutch are about the most friendly people we have met on our travels, we have met a few Germans but I find they tend to socialise with other Germans mostly.

I would suggest he wasn't being rude, a friend buys two plane tickets one for themself and another so no one sits next to them and try to chat, not every one wishes to chat, their jobs can be highly demanding and they just want some peace or maybe they are an introvert and have no interest in small talk.

What anecdotes someone may wish to impart, however amusing or interesting to the story tellers listener may find it dull and boring.

If you ignore the Motorhome bits it's not too bad as a travel program.

Paul seems a bit more with it in this series and his voice over commentarys are quite good. When you see him moving about he appears very doddery for his age.

We can over-analyse a simple, fun(ish), motorhome programme.

E.g. in the first episode of S2, the motorhome was on ramps but, last night they had their 1st experience of driving onto ramps.

I don't mind socialising a little but often I find those who like to socialise are the ones who just like to talk forever about themselves. When accosted by those types I tend to sneak off and leave the wife to deal with them!

off topic but an anecdote:

Alice Roberts was my house officer.
One operation I performed required two assistants - she would be number 2, standing on my left.
A manoeuvre I had to do meant swinging my elbow out to allow access of my left hand under the ribs.
I brushed her ample right breast and immediately apologised.
It was known thereafter as the Alice manoeuvre - and thereafter, I always warned any female assistants to be careful to avoid.

When Alice left she presented me with a drip stand with a breast implant taped at her level - "So you'll always remember me, sir".


As celebration for a successful libel prosecution, I threw a champagne and fish and chips party (today's newspapers are tomorrow's fish and chip wrappers). The theme was "you've survived a traumatic event".

The automatic Roller Team developed a fault and until the end of one episode they had a different one (a manual gearbox job) - with the original vehicle returned in time for the exit bedtime shot.
They need an automatic for them both to be drivers.

Too close a pitch up ,that can't be within any campsite regulations. Didn't seem to be well regulated but maybe different rules for surfers.

One of the camp staff took them to the pitch and helped her back up. Seemed way too close.

As for over 6m. The site got some pretty cheap peak time TV exposure.....

I like watching travel programs based around caravans, motorhomes and holidays etc but if companies that produce these programs don’t do so accurately……… then they should stay well away.

The program is not informative and off putting to newbies to the hobby and may also give the wrong impression of what motorhoming/caravaning is all about.

Shame really but as long as people watch, companies will produce.

It’s like going to the dentist to have a tooth out with no anaesthetic.
