When out and about I always worry about parking in a public space and not being able to get out, particularly when it's 7.5 m long and a big rear overhang.

So why do cars insist in parking next to you when there are 50 odd spaces elsewhere!!!

OK at the moment as there is space in front but it's only 10am.

There appears to be a number of M/H's parked in another area to the right in the picture.
Perhaps the cars are trying to tell you, you should be parked there? 🤔

Yep, know what you mean. Car drivers really don't have a clue and fail to realise a large vehicle needs more space to manover.

Often French & Spanish park next to you for shade Spanish are worst. Last year in a car park in Spain only ½ doz cars there when we came back to the van their was cars parked all around us took over 20 min of careful man manovering to get out.

Even when I park the car I try to keep away from everyone else as I don't want my old banger dented by someones door.

Other motorhomes do it too, plenty of room in this NT car park but this guy decided to park so close they could only open the passengers door half way!! The parking bays opposite were all empty

I know what you mean. We were in an Aires in Portugal next to a sports ground, we were eating our dinner, a Mercedes parked real close to our side door, his engine and ac were running for 90 minutes while his son took some exercise. Why did he not park elsewhere there was plenty of space? It could have been shade I suppose. Even so ...

No - they are stored. Clearly not being used (odd as it's a hospital pay by the hour car park) We could not park in those bays as we are too long and sticking out into the 'roadway'. We tried it.

Why complain on here?
Why not, politely, have a word with the other driver?
I do and most of the time, they move (or I do).
Are we afraid to talk anymore?
🤔

I'm not really complaining. Just having a moan to fellow motorhomers. I couldn't speak to the owners as 1. I was asleep in bed. 2. My Italian is non existent.

I think people find it easier to park between two vehicles than to park between two lines in a relatively empty carpark.
When out with my MG I often try to park well away from other cars. A few weeks ago I parked at the far end of a car park, no one else near me. When I came back some bloke was still sat in his car, parked so close that I couldn't open my door to get in. When I asked him politely if he could move so I could get in, I was told that it is really difficult to park straight if not next to a car! Funny, I thought the lines painted on the ground helped.

If you expand the picture you can see, at least 2 empty spaces just in the corner pictured ( who know how many others there was) but as the OP, it was a private area so no parking was available?

Rather than forensically analyse the OP’s parking choice/spot and criticise, perhaps we could share his frustration……….

His point is well made… we have often parked clear of everybody… gone shopping come back and bugger me… we are stuck…. Cars either side and cars parked in the row in front…. No space to pull forward and space for the overhang to clear the adjacent cars.

Yep, frustrating but the way the blue SEAT is parked says it all…

Its not just cars, we had another motorhome park stupidly close to us at services on the way to Canterbury. We could only just open the drivers door and had to do a tricky manouevre to get out. And we'd parked in a quiet corner so as to be out of the way.

Then he really shouldn't be driving.
Most drivers should not be driving, drink, drugs, poor emotional regulation poor eyesight, poor spacial awareness, tiredness, trouble is many took the driving test 40 years ago and haven’t read the Highway Code since then…..the list goes on it’s a miracle there are not more accidents 😉

Even your registration looks pee’d off! 😄

The motorhomes parked around are all in storage or dumped or whatever. Certainly not inhabited. Also they are all in dark areas. As we were staying the night we wanted to be in the lit area. Also, my motorhome at 7.5 metre stuck out if the bay into the 'road' section. So I parked in the middle over 2 lengths of parking space.

if I park in a supermarket, I use 4 spaces so I've got turning space to pull out

We know what you mean as we have a tag axle and thanks to my cassette lift we hope no-one will pack that side BUT if car park is busy then you take your chances - Andy just pull out enough for the cassette lift to go out & get me in on those occasions.
He looks for ends or corners where he can take a front & back space but not get hemmed in - works normally .

My take on this and I am only guessing but in a lot of country's , blue lines mean only local people with permits can park there, don't know if this is the case here but I would never park on any coloured lines without finding out for definite.

The whole car park is blue lines - I think people are reading too much into this. It's just a carpark - cost me 12 euros too!! Pay and display, automatic barrier controlled. Motorhomes around the side seem to be there long term storage - no owners visible - maybe they have some arrangement with the owner.

It's a regular motorhome stopover on park for night/ search for sites.

Yes, me too, but I will always park as far away as possible from the shop and wouldn't do it in a busy car park.

Apparently if you have an Audi or Mercedes sports, it is obligatory to straddle the white line and take up two spaces. I have to admit if i am in a fairly empty carpark at a supermarket I park away from the other cars and do the same thing, except 4 spaces as I am longer than a normal parking space. In the van of course.
