Hi
We will be sailing to Spain next week,Have you any advise where we can stay overnight in Portsmouth area as we will be traveling down from the north the day before our sailing. Also any advice on a place to stay for one night in Bilbao before we head for Almeria ,I believe the two aires in Bilbao are not open at this time of the year.

Dave

If FB is to be believed you can overnight at the port, need to check it out, we have an early morning sailing booked. Can't help with Bilbao it's about 12 years since we sailed form there, and we were on the bike then.

Brittany Ferries website says that you can park at Portsmouth in the check in lanes, after midnight, if you're taking a morning ferry.

I will be having an overnight at Portsmouth in the near future and having done a bit of looking about the car park at Marina Keep seems favourite. It’s on camper contact and SFS etc.

At Portsmouth we park at a pub on the hill overlooking the port. Manager very accommodating and good food at reasonable prices . Very quiet and called The ChurchillIan. Bilbao is more helpful than Portsmouth allowing unrestricted parking at the port.

If you have time after arriving at Bilbao. Acsi site at Haro is open. It's around a hour away.

Stopped at this aire in Bilbao last week. Details can be found on campercontact.

You can stay on the car park at Portsmouth Ferry Terminal, we did it last Sept, no bother at all.

Although Brittany Ferries say you can park overnight from (if I recall correctly) midnight at Portsmouth if you are on the first sailing the next morning, we arrived at 22.00 and the Security Official said there was no problem in arriving earlier provided it was after the last ferry of the day had already boarded. You will be asked to park in a designated area to the left of the pre-boarding area. We were first to arrive, but soon joined by another 6 or 7 Motorhomes/Caravans. The snack bar and bar, as well as toilets are available in the Terminal Building. Other than going to the Terminal Building you are expected to remain with your vehicle overnight. The only downside was that you are awakened at around 06.00 to reposition your vehicle in the pre-boarding queues.

Hi. We travelled same journey 10th Jan this year.
Stayed at Port Solent. No problem. Apparently there is a Wetherspoons close by.
We also stayed for 2 nights on the previously mentioned aire. The facilities are closed but you can stay on the adjacent car for free. A bus service every 10mins passes the aire.
If you have time, bilbao is worth a visit.

You can park against the wall in the entrance area after 2130 ,,,there are signs saying so..We arrived about 2000 and parked,,no one bothered us,,If your stuck in Bilbao you can always park at Brittanies outside car park. Don't know when it reopens but its only an hour to Camping Haro,,BUSBY.

Stayed at Portsmouth, last night. We arrived at midnight, but the signs at the port actually state that you can park there from 10pm, so I'm sure that @busby has got it right.
There was just one other van there. It's a bit noisy, but we slept OK, and so convenient to just drive 100 yds to check in.
We were the only motorhome on the Caen ferry, today. Not really surprised, because I know that most people, on the way to Spain/Portugal take the short crossings, if they don't do Bilbao/Santander.
Lovely crossing today. The sea was like a mill pond. :)
